alimentum has soy oil, so can I eat soy oil while BFing? LO has dairy/?soy intolerance

my can of alimentum that the pedi gave us, has soy oil as an ingredient. I BF, been dairy/soy free since 5/11/11. LO had green mucousy bloody stools for about 3 weeks, and bad rash, so diet was changed per his pedi. LO has had the alimentum maybe 3 times total. didn't seem to react to it. so could that mean that I could eat soy oil and BF and he would be OK?? its been a month or so since he had the formula. I just gave him some this AM since he just started zantac and I wanted to mix it in something and have no pumped milk. he seems OK so far... how long before a side effect would occur from the soy if he did have an intolerance? pedi did say I could try some soy oil or lechiten since those are a bit controversial as to whether they will affect those with the intolerance.

  • DS has a milk/soy allergy. His pedi said no soybean oil but soy lecithin is OK in a BFing diet. That is because the soy proteins are almost always completely extracted from soy lecithin, but may still be present in soybean oil. This is my understanding anyway, since the proteins are what actually causes the allergic reaction.
