NCDR: food question

I have a question about snacks for DD.  She is almost 10 months and is eating all table food.

She is teething pretty bad and was pretty miserable at DC yesterday.  They gave her teething rings but she wasn't interested.  So, then they said graham crackers and vanilla wafers worked.  Where they had to write how many vanilla wafers she had on her report sheet it said "A lot" Huh?

Now, I am by no means an extremist with the food I give DD.  We try to avoid processed foods at home but DC provides all snacks and lunch and I really am okay with her eating their food.

Does anyone know of an alternative I can send in instead of giving her cookies?  I am looking for something with less sugar and maybe more whole grains.

ETA: She is still bottle fed also (don't want you going all bump-like on me thinking I wasn't still giving her a bottle :)

Re: NCDR: food question

  • Earths Best makes some organic whole wheat based graham cracker sticks & other healthier options (a cheese cracker, an oatmeal cracker, etc).  Also, they make cereal bars that are kind of like nutri-grain bars also.

Another things that help DD during teething is super cold or frozen fruit in the mesh feeders.  We also make popsicles with fruit that we puree in those small popsicle makers.  She loves them (certain flavor combos more than others, lol).  It is also a good way to use up fruit that is close to expiring before it does.

Hope that helps!  I would not be please about "a lot" of vanilla wafers either, lol.

That's great!  I just found those Earth's Best and grabbed a box.  I am going to have to try to make those popsicles (as messy as they sound, lol)  Where did you get the popsicle makers?

I am a little afraid of teething biscuits as I gave one to DD and it was so messy and gross I almost threw up.  I had to put her right in the bath.  It basically just melted all over her face.  I may try to make those biscotti though-thanks!

Bed Bath & Beyond.  I just used our mini food processor to grind stuff up.  It wasn't as messy as you might think.  I use like 4-5 of those link thingies to attach the handle to her high chair strap.  We got these:

I don't put anything in the middle yet, but that might be fun as she gets older.
