At what point and/or age did you lower the mattress?
I feel like I'm behind on this. The mattress in DD's crib sits pretty low, even on it's highest setting. She's tall for her age, but I think she can barely get her chin over the edge. I've been worried about her getting out of it, but she hasn't shown much interest in climbing out... yet. Should I lower it for safety's sake or just wait until she tries to get out?
Re: speaking of lowering cribs...
We started ours out on the very lowest setting because I didn't want to mess with it later =P I'm on the taller side and it was never an issue as far as getting her in and out of the crib.
If in doubt, drop it. If you wait until an escape attempt, they can injure themselves if they happen to be successful on their first try. It's like how babies can't roll until you leave them alone on the changing table or couch, KIWM? One day they can't get over the edge of that crib, the next, they're vaulting out like an olympic gymnist! If her chin is barely over the edge, she probably can't get a foot up top to make her way over, which is usually the method of escape, but again, you have no idea of when she will be capable of that.
Sitting--we went to the middle setting.
Pulling up--we went to lowest setting.
Currently, the rail is such that she can tip her head and reach the rail with her mouth (just barely).
this is what we did too. so sitting it was about 5 months, pulling up was about 9-10 months.
This. We lowered ours as soon as she started sitting up on her own and grabbing for the rails, which was around 7ish months. All they need to do is get enough of their noggin above the rail and gravity will do the rest for them(in terms of falling out), so I felt it was best to lower it before she suddenly figured out how to pull up more.
