Clothing Question

I assume this is where we come after 12-24 months.  Our local once upon a child is having a clearance on summer clothes this Saturday.  I have no clue what sizing would be appropriate for next summer.  I screwed up last year and bought 18 month carter's for this summer (which was really 12-18 months..) not 18-24 months (ops!)

She is 26 pounds, and 32 inches.  Right now, she is wearing 12 month or 18 month pants and 2t shirts.

Any guesses on what would be appropriate?  I assume her growth will slow a lot as I think she's only gained 2 pounds in the last 6 months atleast.

I was thinking 3t shirts/dresses and maybe skip the shorts lol.  She wears a lot of dresses and they will be easier to figure sizing out.

Re: Clothing Question

  • I would actually skip buying clothes ahead of time. There's a huge guessing game when it comes to future sizes, especially if you are purchasing for a season that only lasts several months. (not sure how your climate is) I live in Florida, so I can safely purchase bigger sizes in summer clothes since I know my boys can wear them 11 months out of the year. But when it comes to buying winter clothes, which they will only wear off and on over a few months, I only purchase them when I have a clear idea on what size they will be.

It's in the 90's here from May to August and the t-shirts she will wear year round and dresses we do a lot of leggings for April and September/October under dresses.  They are going to be 80% off (of like $5 dresses, etc), so I'm going to attempt it, if she can't wear them, I'm sure Morgan will be able to at some point.  I'm not going to spend  more than say $40.  I don't want to buy M anything since we have all of P's clothes that she's fitting into perfectly for this summer so hopefully the pattern will continue.

  • Growth does slow a lot compared to younger ages.  For example, I bought a lot of 2T for DD right before last summer when she was turning 2.  It was big on her then, and still fits her perfectly now.  I did buy her some 3T this year, especially dresses since the 2T are getting a little short, but I know she won't be exclusively in 3T until sometime this fall.  So for my DD, who admittedly is a little peanut (27 pounds and 36.5 inches at almost 3), she gets 12-14 months in a size now, meaning she'll wear all the seasons in a size before she outgrows it.  But not all kids will be like this.  I highly recommend dresses and adjustable waist skirts/pants (the type with the elastic and buttons inside- very common at Gymboree and I think Old Navy).  Oh, also, check the Toddler 24 months + board- the preschool board only gets about 5 posts a week.

  • I find that summer clothes are a lot more forgiving than winter clothes.  My girls can still wear a lot of shorts from last summer, and old dresses are now tops they wear with shorts or leggings.  I would go with 3T or 4T t-shirts, even if it's a little big she'll be fine.  For bottoms I would look at 2T stuff.  Even then, assess!  Sometimes waists are huge and can vary from size to size.
