*Mrs. Foltz*

Thanks for the thoughts on Cedarmore.  I'm for sure going to do summer but still debating on the fall share.

On the canned good share, I'm trying to figure out how that's a good value?  It's $4/week but looking at the canned goods many of them are under $4?  So why wouldn't I just order them a la carte and get what I really want instead of randomly selected for cheaper?  Speaking of the canned goods, which ones have you really loved?

Re: *Mrs. Foltz*

  • You might be right about the canned good pricing- honestly I think I just got excited about the "surpirse" factor :) and the fact that I just know I'd be too busy to remember to order them plus this forces me to try new stuff whiich is half the point of the CSA for me.

We also do a half egg share- so we get a dozen eggs every other week. and just this week they offered whole chickens- we didn't do that but it seemed like a good value. you can also order bread and rolls, etc ala cart.  I'd like to try cinnamon rolls sometime.

so far my favorite canned goods have been the pickles (garlic something, delicious) and the maple syrup.  Oh and the salsa was very good too.  We've gotten some other basics like canned tomatos and peppers but we haven't used them yet.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hehehe.  I totally know what you mean about the "surprise" factor.  That was what made me stop and go "oooh!"

I don't think I'll do the egg share b/c a lady at my work raises chickens and sells hers for $2/dz and is supposed to come back from maternity leave soon.  I would like some chickens though.  My last CSA farm offered fresh whole chickens and they were the most awesome tasting, tender meat ever!

Thanks for the reco on the canned goods.  I was eyeing the maple syrup and read on  the net somewhere that the pear butter is to die for!
