Baby started to wake really upset...

My son is a month old now. He used to take forever to wake up, lots of grunting and snorting and flailing around. So we had a lot of time to wake up too. Plus, he would be super snugly and want to cuddle/nurse and we would have time to get him to his rocker and cuddle him or prepare for nursing (which I have always struggled with and takes some prep on my part now). Now, he wakes suddenly (not started--just from deep sleep to awake) and goes from peaceful baby to bright red and screaming before he is even awake completely. And he grabs at us and then pushes back hard and kicks. What the hell is going on? Anyone else have this? He is really hard to calm and in the middle of the night it sucks.

Re: Baby started to wake really upset...

  • I am going through the same thing. DD usually goes to sleep around 9. She had been sleeping until 2ish pretty consistently. The last few nights though she starts screaming in her sleep around 11-11:30. She only does it at that time of night and is totally fine after I wake her up, talk to her, and hold her. I was thinking maybe she was having a nightmare. We are going to the pediatrician on Tuesday so I was going to bring it up then. Sorry I don't have any advice, but your LO definitely isn't the only one screaming in his sleep.

  • Abbey does this and I think that it is gas... not really sure but I know that it is hard to console her when it happens so it is not just wanting to be held.
