What do you and your DD call her "parts"?

The other day during bath time, my DD asked what her lady "parts" were.  As the only girl in the house with brothers, my mom just called it my private parts, which was what I responded to her.  Then I got to thinking, what do other little girls her age call them?  I mean, are you technical or do you have another name?  I guess with boys there are so many things you can call a penis-just got me thinking...

Re: What do you and your DD call her "parts"?

  • That is the funniest thing I've ever heard-I literally laughed out loud...on a side note whenever Obama is on TV my daughter ALWAYS asks who he is!!!  Too funny!

  • For now, we refer to vaginas and penises as a girl private and boy private. Their butts are tushies. We'll teach them the real words in a few years.

  • I counsel victims of sexual assault and through that have learned how important it is for children to learn the appropriate names for their private parts. So I tell her it's her vagina and bottom. As long as it's around those lines I think it's find, but when kids start saying "woo-hoo" and "betsy" I don't think it's a good thing.
  • I forgot to mention that we already call her bottom her booty-simply because the when she was younger we were dancing to that song, "shake, shake, shake, shake your booty" and it kinda stuck!  She also calls her breasts her boobies-kinda just came out when she asked me.  :)
  • We have called it vagina and also her bum.  Although right now she thinks anything in that area is her bum.  Which works for now.

She calls breasts boo boos.  I'm nursing my younger one so she sees them a lot.  She knows that nipples are called nipples as well.

  • My LO started calling her vagina her "pee pee" and her bottom her "butt" she calls breasts "boobies" and when she saw her daddy in the shower by accident she asked in why he had a "tail"....oh well, this is ok for me for now....when she is older we will teach correct terms :)

  • Well I originally started with "bottom" but now she refers to both ends as her butt, lol, so I've been correcting her with the correct term :)

    That is hilarious!

We call it her "pee pee" as well. For her breasts she says boobs or ninnies. She saw my bra on the bathroom floor one day when i was in the shower and said "mommy, your boobs are on the floor."

  • Right now DSs backside is his "Tushie" his front currently is his "pee-pee."

As he gets older those words will change.

I personally believe that children should be taught things the way they are.  She knows that she has a vagina and that is what she calls it.  She calls her back side her butt.  She is able to distinguish the difference.  She also knows that Daddy is different and that he has a penis.  She knows that boys and girls are different.  There is no shame on that, and I think that we need to be honest with kids, and they need to know the true names for body parts and be truthful about them.  I just wonder sometimes why people don't feel comfortable using the appropriate terms with their children.

I agree with you a 100%. My parents had made up names for our private parts when we were little and I think it's really quite stupid. We speak Russian at home and Sasha calls her bottom "butt" in Russian, and her vagina is "vagina" (that in English though, it came out like that one day and stuck). She also knows that boys are different and that daddy has a penis instead of a vagina. She calls her chest a "chest", since there aren't any boobs there yet really.

  • She calls her breasts "boops".  When she asked, I told her they were called "breasts" the first time, but she had a hard time saying it, so then I told her "boobs", and that's where she came up with her own word :)

Right now we just call everything down below, her "bottom", "booty", "tushy" or "butt", and we usually refer to it as her "frontside" and "backside" when we are on the potty or whatever. I've referred to her frontside as her vagina before, but she just looked confused.  I'll try again when she is older.

We are also very clear that those are her privates, and that nobody should be touching them except for herself, and mommy and daddy when we are cleaning her. I think she gets the concept, because she'll often say to me when I'm getting her dressed "These are my privates, nobody can touch them".

  • Right now, DD also mostly refers to the frontside and backside of her bottom.  I hesitate to teach her vagina even though that's what it seems most people say these days simply because it just isn't actually correct.  I guess vulva would be the proper term.  With boys it's easier because the whole area is basically a penis, but for girls obviously it is different if you are talking about going pee or having sex (which at not quite 3yo, I really don't want to be talking about yet!).

  • In the tub when I bathe her I call them what they are- her vagina and her bottom.  DH can't bring himself to use the v- word infront of her.  He did it once and he was very uncomfortable.  When she is getting her diaper changed and she sticks her hands down there I try and use the real word but I know that they are not using it at her school.  So we simply say, "you don't put your hands in there".  When she sits on the potty we talk about how the tinkle and poop come out of her vagina and bottom.  (Not that poop comes out of her vagina but you get the idea.)

  • She's got bottom and boobies down - for her vulva/vagina, she normally just calls it her "body."  I have corrected her a few times, but haven't made a huge deal about it.

  • My DH calls them "your no go to". LOL Sleep I am the one with the girls most and I call them their "girly parts". So I am assuming they will probably call them that. They do call a penis a "pee pee." We have a male dog that likes to roll around on his back with it all exposed, so my girls started pointing and asking what it was. I also watch one of my BFF's boys that is 6 months younger than the girls and they have watched me change his diaper and they point at his penis and say "pee pee, E has a pee pee."

Butt, Boobies and Vagina.  Surprisingly, she remembers these names and refers to them all the time.  When she sits on the potty or we change her diaper she'll point down there and say Vagina. She hasn't questioned the male parts yet....

This exactly. DS calls his penis a "penis". I don't get calling things by made up names. I think for girls it should be the same. Vagina and penis are not dirty words.

Exactly! She called her nipples - nipples, vagina her vagina (comes out gina) and her butt her butt and Daddy's penis his penis.

  • I call them the correct term--penis, testicles, vulva, etc. We tend to refer to the vaginal area as vulva, as the vagina is not an external organ. That said, I think vagina is far more appropriate than cutesy terms (puke). They say chest/nipples (neeeeeeples to DD2), too.

Same with us, although we do say vagina. My ds knows his penis and testicles, I would prefer he know that than some silly term.

  • vagina, vulva, penis, bottom
  • She has learned vagina/vulva and penis (she has seen dad in the shower and asked, so we told her). For the most part we just refer to front bottom vs. back bottom, because I think those are pretty clear to anyone she might describe them to. Tinkle comes out of her front bottom, poop comes out the back. I can't stand silly made up words.

  • DD has a hard time remembering vagina so she just says private or front butt which is what DH taught her. She knows penis and calls her butt her butt or booty or booty butt. She calls breasts boobs/boobies and nipples are pimples. LOL. I think she just has a hard time remembering the correct names. I bought her a book from amazon called The Amazing You and she loves it.
