Providence Southfield

Any of you deliver out of Providence Southfield?  Were the rooms nice?  Were they clean?  Staff nice?  Etc...  My MIL almost had a heart attack when I told her I might go to Southfield and not Novi, her experience 31 years ago wasn't good.  I assured her that things change, and that her Dr. back then isn't my Dr. today.

I am thinking of switching to a midwife and they only deliver out of Southfield not Novi.

Totally not too much help, but my mom delivered my sister there 17 years ago and said that Providence Southfield was by far her best experience out of 3 births.  She also had her hysterectomy there (which is on the same floor as L&D) and had no complaints.  Are you thinking of doing the ABC or just using a midwife?  The ABC gets great reviews from people I know that used it.  You can always take a hospital tour.  I'm not sure how the rooms are set up now, 17 years ago my mom had to share a room with another new mom, but they could be private rooms now like they are at Novi.

ABC=Alternative Birthing Center.  That's where they have all the birthing tubs, etc.  There is info about it on the hospital website.

Yes I would use a birthing tub instead of the epidural.  If anything goes wrong there are Dr's there to take over if I need a C-Sec (which I probably can't have) they will have to knock me out!   This will be very interesting I can see it already!

My friend had her son there in Sept 2010. They used a midwife and actually had a private room. The bed was soooo big that her, her DH and 3 kids(including the new baby) could all fit on the bed for pictures. She said that was her best delivery out of all 3 kids and she did the other two at a hospital. If you need anymore details, let me know I can ask her direct questions.
