Baby sprinkle vs. baby shower?

I'm completely unaware lol - what's the difference between a baby shower and a baby sprinkle??

Re: Baby sprinkle vs. baby shower?

  • From what I've read, sprinkle seems to be very informal and casual in comparison to a shower. And gifts are more necessities, such as onsies, diapers, bottles.

    I personally don't think it's much different.
It's a celebration for baby with your friends and family! Big, small, formal, informal, whatever!

  • From what I've seen/been to a sprinkle has been for a second time mom and is usually super casual and most gifts are diapers and wipes and maybe just a small something else if baby is of opposite sex than their firs.

  • Sprinkles are for moms with children already (sometimes when they are now having the opposite sex of the other child). They are a small get together with close family and close friends. Showers are for your first baby where you make a registry and people buy off of that for you if they wish. You invite more family to these than you would a sprinkle.
  • In my circle, a sprinkle is also called a book shower, diaper and wipes shower (or just diaper shower),etc. it is more about the consumables that are always in need or things that you can never have too much of :-)

  • Never heard of a sprinkle shower before. Plus in the UK we don't really hold baby showers, you just get a ton of presents when the baby is born. I loved it last time as everyone knew then we had had a boy, as we waited until birth to find out. I think I counted 221 cards we received all in all!! I was so shocked at everyone's kindness :-)
  • I wish someone would explain a sprinkle to my cousin who is due in July and is throwing her own "sprinkle", 30 people and has a registry with only big items because she says she'll get the cheap stuff - puke!!

Sorry to jump on your post like this...guess I needed to get that off my chest lol!
  • Yeah, my italian in laws don't know what a "sprinkle" is either. They all show up whether invited or not and bring gifts. It ends up being a full on baby shower. As long as family is together and there is food being served they will show up or find an excuse to show up. My first baby shower was a success thanks to them. I got everything I needed twice over. I was returning so many double gifts in exchange for diapers and wipes. My husband's cousins with their 2nd 3rd and 4th babies all seem to have the same thing. Sprinkles that turn I to full on showers because of family. I am still trying to get used to their traditions. It's been 8 years now. :)
