rash ?

my lo woke up with a localized (small) patch of reddish bumps on his chest. they seemed to fade after getting him dressed. he has a cold but no other symptoms. it seems to have lasted all day and now i seem to notice very faint, flat spots on his stomach. not on his back. could this be a heat rash, excema? as i said no other symptoms so i am ruling our roseola/fifths disease. just curious. he has tended to have sensitive skin. also, he hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary.

Re: rash ?

  • My older son gets random rashes all the time.  My pedi said he just has sensitive skin.  Sometimes I'll put Aquaphor on him if I think about it, but otherwise they tend to come and go on their own.  A good tidbit though about rashes is that a rash should always blanch... meaning if you run your finger over it, it should drain of color then go back.  If it stays red (or whatever color it is), call the pedi right away (and if there's a fever with it, head to the ER).

  • Has he had a fever at all?  I just found out that Fifth Disease is going around the toddler room at DD's school (the room she's in) and from what I understand symptoms are like cold symptoms, sometimes a low grade fever and then a rash on cheeks, arms, and/or trunk.
