Gross laundry situation :(

There is a bunch of clothes in DS's hamper that have black moldy spots all over the neck area, like where he spits up.  I usually wipe the spit up and then throw the item in the hamper wet, and the laundry piles up until I get one full load.

I didn't do his laundry for about a week because we were out of town, and then came back to the yucky clothes.  I am so upset because some really nice embroidered outfits seem to be ruined.  I've washed and Oxycleaned and nothing is working.  Does this happen to anybody else?  How can I get it out?

Re: Gross laundry situation :(

  • Oh no!  The only thing that I've found to get out mold is bleach.  I wonder if color-safe bleach would work...

Or sunlight?  Bright sunlight seems to work on lots of stains (like bright yellow baby poop Ick!).

  • I don't know. A year ago something similar happened to a shirt I bought DS (bought it a size bigger and he's still wearing it, actually wearing it today) and the black mold at the neckline is still visible. It's gross, but it's now his favorite play shirt. I hope you find something that works. :(

My mom just fixed a ton of baby stains and mold stains on Lena's clothes. She used the Heloise magic solution and I think she used the Clorox bleach for colors instead of regular bleach.

  • Thanks for the Heloise solution.  My grandmother uses a similar solution to clean fine linens and whites, but instead of bleach it's a cup of peroxide.  It works like magic for underarm and collar stains!

Unfortunately it's a blue Feltman Bros. jumper that is the worst off, so I can't use real bleach.  I will try the color safe bleach (didn't know that existed!).  Thanks for the tips.

  • Vinegar? I know it gets out spit up stains.
