Experiences with goose eggs/bumps turning hard before healing??

So, I've talked to her pediatrician and they said to do warm compresses to make it go away. Just curious if anyone else had experienced a goose egg/bump turning hard before healing completely. I'm worried b/c it is on the back of ther head. It's bruised and pokes out although the swelling has gone down a ton since it happened Sat. Long story short, she fell off a ride on toy and hit her head on asphalt.
