Toddlers: 24 Months+

"Are you going to listen to mommy or not?"

Me:

"Are you going to listen to mommy or not?"

My son, sweetly:

"Not?"

Yeah, it is probably my fault thinking that he will definitely understand that I want this to be a rhetorical question.

  • HAHAHA!

    Conversation with E yesterday:

Me: E, you need to listen to mommy. Do you want a spanking?

    E: Yes

    Me: I don't think so.

  • DD does that to me too.  Yesterday I told her we needed to run to the store real quick and she looked at me and said "Mmmm, how about...no!"  Well, ok then.

  • HA!  It makes me feel a little bit better because I always ask DD to "put her listening ears on." Well yesterday she told me that she couldn't because "i trew dem away. i no wanna listen."  Such fun.
  • I sometimes say to DS "Are you going to eat your dinner or what?"

    He replies, "Or what."

  • I can totally relate!  Whenever I give S an ultimatum like that, it backfires... examples:

"Either eat dinner or go to your room" - he chooses his room

"If you don't eat your broccoli, you can't have a cookie" - he says "I don't want a cookie"

    Ugh.

Sometimes when I tell her to do something, she politely says "No thank you, mama".....it's hard to argue with that lol.

We've had that same conversation the other day. How are you going to argue with that?

Both of these conversations occur several times a week. DD's new favorite reply is "not today" as in:

Me: Will you please listen to me?
    DD: Not today.

Her other favorite reply is "whatever" (but it's not snotty if that makes sense).  She's three going on 13!

  • Oh boy!  The older DD gets the smarter and sweeter her sass gets.  I recently got "Sure, that's YOUR plan, Mama.  That's not my plan."

  • The other day I told DS that if he didn't finish his dinner, he wasn't going to get dessert. I was asking him to take a few more bites, and he told me if he took them he was just going to spit them out. That same night he was being a wild child at the table and banging his silverware (we were at my parents house for dinner). I asked him to please stop, and he didn't. I looked at him and asked him if he wanted to go to time out, and he said yes, I like timeout.
