Two ncdr questions

First, when did you start solids? With Reese, we did everything by her adjusted age. I don't know what to do with a term baby! Lol! Second, when did you move baby into their own room? When they started sttn? Before? With Reese, we were getting ready to move her and I had a friend lose her baby to SIDS. I got super paranoid, and she stayed in our room until 6 months. She started sttn at 3 months, though.

Re: Two ncdr questions

  • 6 months for solids.

4ish months for her own room.  She's been STTN pretty consistently since she was 2 months, though.

  • We started solids at 6 months (well, a few days shy of 6 months to be exact).

We moved her into her own room when she was around 2.5 months old.  She started STTN (and by that I mean her longest sleep stretches, 5-6 hours long or so then, were happening overnight) around 5-6 weeks.  By 2 months she was sleeping long stretches, but mommy was not!  DD makes a ton of noise in her sleep and was starting to stir a little if she'd hear DH or I in the room, it was keeping me up the whole night (DH on the other hand can apparently sleep through anything).  She was in the PnP in our room and the transition to the crib was as if nothing had changed for her, it went very smoothly.

  • 1. Between 5 and 6 months.  She didn't want anything to do with purees so we did more BLW after 6 months when she could sit on her own.

    2. The plan was to keep her in our room, possibly forever, because we didn't have another room for her.  Around 3 months she started sttn, which was awesome, but then around 4-5 months she was waking up all the time.  We accidentally fell asleep in the living room one night and she sttn.  She totally slept better without us in there so we moved the futon to the living room until we were finished converting the dining room to a nursery.  She sttn 95% of the time in "our" room by herself.  At 6 months the conversion was complete and she's been in her room ever since.

  • 1. We started oatmeal around 5 months. She didn't do well, so we started again at 6 months.

    2. We transitioned her to her crib at 3 months. The first night she woke a little more than usual. After the first night, she slept like a champ. She sleeps terribly if she sleeps in the room with us now.

  • Started solids at six months, adjusted age just about 5 months.  He was late pre-term, though, and aside from the first couple of weeks we've been treating him (and he's been acting) like a term baby.

He moved into the nursery around 3 or 4 months, I can't really remember.  He wasn't STTN yet but DH was getting increasingly grumpy about him being in the PNP in our room.  He still gets up generally twice a night to eat, though the first stretch is long enough to qualify as STTN.

  • Can't help you with the solids question, but we moved her out around 2 months. I knew it was time because one night (after she started sleeping 6-7 hrs) I heard her fuss a bit, then heard the poopsplosion, then silence.   So there I lay, at 3AM, weighing my options: Wake her, change her, ultimately end up feeding her, or ignore it and risk a red tush in the morning.

After that, I decided she was out!  Now if she wakes up with a poop I tell myself it must have just happened :)

  • A lot of people advocate waiting until at least 6 months to introduce solids. We were given the green light at 4 months, but DD wasn't ready until about 4.5 months. Did your dr say anything?

IMO it's up to you about when they go to their own room. Just for logistical purposes we did it at about 5 months and it worked out fine.

  • We started solids at 6 months.

She's still in the room with us in her PnP. It's just easier for us that way. Mostly since our house heats inconsistently in the winter and we don't have central air. She sleeps like a champ though - since 2 months - so it's not interfering with sleep on either end.

  • We started solids at 6.5 mo.  We waited until DD showed all of the readiness signs.  It was seamless.  She LOVES food & eats everything we give her.  She is BF.

We moved her to the crib at 4 mo.  I think we waited too long.  We also dropped the swaddle at the same time so it was a horribly rough transition & I barely slept that entire month.  Next time I will do it around 2-3 mo I think.
