Trying to Get Pregnant

GTKY: How quirky are you?

Hi ladies...thought would be fun to get to know each other's quirks!

I think my weirdest one is that I can't burp.  Like if it pops out on accident, there it is, but I can't make myself burp, even after drinking a ton of soda or a beer or anything.  It's pretty frustrating.

  • I'm a very quirky person...

I like going to RenFairs (and I even dress up), I like to talk in a British accent from time to time, I hate donuts and am terrified of moths.

I can't make myself burp either. If I try, I just feel like I'm going to barf. And I can't whistle.

I have a lot of eating "quirks." The one that stands out to most people is that when I eat a sandwich, I HAVE to eat the crust first. Another one is that if I have a plate of food, I eat all of one item at a time (all the veggies, then all the potatoes, then all the meat). I have no clue why, but I feel like food tastes better that way. ;)

  • I dont know if this was a quirk (maybe OCD?) but when I first moved to the US (7yrs old), the food was so different to me that I needed to smell the food on my fork before every.single.bite... otherwise I wouldn't eat it. it would take me forever to finish a meal because I would sniff.. bite, sniff.. bite.. lol! I'm good now Big Smile

  • I don't know how weird this really is, but my husband always thinks it is. I get hiccups from spicey food. It could have the smallest degree of hotness, and I'll have hiccups. It sucks, because I love chicken wings, and even the mild flavor causes them.

Also, I can't whistle. Or wink. Or snap.

That's so funny, I'm the same exact way! My sister makes fun of me all the time, cause she can just push out a huge burp out of nowhere, but I definitely can't. Every once in a while, it'll pop out by accident, like you said, and everyone's like "oh my god, did you just burp?!" Definitely annoying.

  • I dislike feet.  To me thay are clammy, stinky, and private (does this even make sense to anyone?).  The idea of someone touching my feet grosses me out and if someone ever puts their barefoot on me, I freak out and am disgusted.  The previous posts about you guys being able to pinch people and pick up things with your toes, add to my feet nightmares.  Thanks. Alot. :)

  • I don't know how weird this is, but I can't touch clothes to take them out of the dryer unless I know they are completely dry. I can't reach in and feel how damp they still are, because I HATE the feeling of warm, damp clothes. It makes me quiver just thinking about it Stick out tongue

  • I have major texture issues when it comes to food.

Felt makes my teeth hurt.  I can't even imagine touching felt.  Is that spelled correctly?  It looks funny.

Bugs seriously freak me out, to the point that I can't even get rid of them on my own.  So gross.

I hate the smell of my H's morning pee.  That's gross, both to me and for you to hear, I'm sure.

I think it's so freaking sexy when another girl hits on my husband.  I have super jealous issues, but it makes me feel good that another girl finds him as sexy as I do ;)

I'm kind of like this, but with candy.  I eat all of the chocolate off the edges of a Kit Kat before eating the wafers and the stuff between them.  I hold M&Ms in my hand until the chocolate inside liquifies and the shell cracks.  Then I break it in half, eat out the chocolate and put the shell back together so I can crunch on it.

I don't engage in any of this behavior in public, however.

It's weird how many burping things are coming up.  I hate burping A LOT, so if I drink soda in a bottle, I shake out the carbonation.  I have a whole method.  I drink a few sips, then squeeze the bottle while the lid is loosened until the liquid is almost to the top (this makes room for the carbonation) screw on the lid and shake the crap out of the soda.  Once the bubbles subside, I loosen it slightly to let the carbonation vent out, and then I repeat the same thing until the soda is flat.

And finally, I have a legitimate phobia of dolls.  When I see one (or part of one), I start sweating, and I feel very uncomfortable.  My whole posture changes.  I've been working on getting over this one...

  • I freak out if my bare feet touch any floor inside, especially after a shower. I have to keep flip flops on at all times when I walk around my house! If I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the restroom, I immediately put on my shoes. When i step out of the shower, i step onto the carpet then immediately into my shoes. This just began within the last five years I'd say-- what a weirdo lol!

  • DH and I were clearly meant for each other because we both make up songs about meaningless dribble. For example, I'll sing about my dog eating her dinner to the tune of Frosty the Snowman. But we only do it when we're at home alone haha. Also, I still pack peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch. Although this could have something to do with the fact that it takes 9 minutes to pop popcorn with the microwave at work...

I can't whistle either.  And DH thinks I have mutant toes, because my second toe is longer than my big toe, on both feet.

I eat my food by the food I like least first, and save the best thing on my plate for last--UNLESS it will get cold and that will ruin the tastiness, in which case I will eat the food in an order to maximize the flavor.  So if I have a salad, a steak, and green beans, I'll eat the green beans first (warm is better than cold, but I don't like them), then the steak (so it won't be too cold, even though its my favorite), then the salad last, since it won't get cold.

See, I do this, too, but with my kindergarten class. I think they get tired of hearing me give directions, so when I sing them, their ears perk right up. Most of mine are to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It".

Speaking of kindergarten, I can't stand when a kiddo comes up to me with a wiggly tooth and shows me how it's dangling by a thread. Makes me feel absolutely creeped out.

I like to color code my closet in ROY G BIV order (you know, the colors of the spectrum Red Orange Yellow.....).

I make up songs about random things I'm doing or thoughts that I have.  For instance, one winter I hop in DH's car and he has heated leather seats.  I crank up the heat on the seats and start to sing "Heat my azz, heat, heat my azz".  DH didn't hear the "H" sound and thought I was saying something else Wink  Once I cleared it up we cracked up and still laugh about it today.

This! Ugh I HATE when my students do this! I tell them to go away lol.

DH and I also make up songs about our dogs like 20 times day. Any song that has the word "you" in it is perfect because one of our dog's nicknames is Moo lol.

Also, I HATE touching clay, wet clay is ok but dried clay is awful. I can't do it. I also absolutely cannot not put on lotion after any water touches my hands. I put on lotion, conservatively, about 30 times a day.

I also can't touch paper products without putting more lotion on my hands first. It has to feel "wet" and not smooth like when you touch paper with dry hands.

  • After reading these I see so many I have  in common with others!

I can't stand the feel of dryness. Like chalky feeling things. I don't like to touch them or have them touch me. Even if my hands are too dry it makes me cringe. I don't like the sounds of dry things touching, like paper on a chalk board would be the most terrible combo.

DH always lays in bed and rubs his foot on his leg, up and down and up and down. The sounds of  his dry foot rubbing his leg hair makes me want to smack him.

It actually sounds even more quirky writing it down, in my head it didn't seem like such an odd thing...

I don't know how weird this really is, but my husband always thinks it is. I get hiccups from spicey food. It could have the smallest degree of hotness, and I'll have hiccups. It sucks, because I love chicken wings, and even the mild flavor causes them.

Also, I can't whistle. Or wink. Or snap.

I get the hiccups from pretzels and bagels!  I feel your hiccup pain.

I'm opposite of the sock sleepers.  I absolutely CANNOT wear socks on my feet unless they are in my shoes.  It's bare feet or shoes and socks together.  I can't wear socks to bed because it makes me cringe and I can't stand the thought of DH wearing socks to bed, so I make him take his off too!

I also can't wear gloves in the winter unless they're warm when I put them on.  The cold fabric on my fingertips makes me shiver.

Lastly, DH and and I make up voices for our dog and blurt out random things she might be thinking at the time.  Sometime she has a French accent...
