Baby Names

We're at the finish line with our twin girls names

But I just wanted to see if the middle name of one sounds okay or if anyone has any suggestions. So as I posted awhile ago, the girls names will be:

Carys Moira (ln sounds like) Donnellan

Brynn Elizabeth Donnellan

Brynn's is pretty much set, Elizabeth is my confirmation name and I really like it with Brynn. I just wasn't sure about Carys. At first Moira was an attempt to incorporate a variation of Mary (my grandmother is Mary, mom is Maria and sisters middle name is Marie) and thought it worked because it went along with my husbands irish heritage. Here is where it gets tricky - originally DH wanted both our mother's names as middle names and then we decided against it. I had already looked into the variations and started to really like Moira anyway. Now it would have no significant meaning but I still like it.

So I guess, does it sound okay together and if not, do you have other suggestions for a middle name for Carys?

  • I think both are beautiful names, and I really like Moira.
  • I love both names. Plus Moira could always still have special meaning to you even if, technically, it's not supposed to be for your mom!

  • IMHO Carys Moira is kind of a mouthful, but if you're not going to use her full name often, it's OK.  I think Carys and Moira are both names that people will commonly mispronounce, so be prepared for that.  Congrats on your twins!

Ditto all of this! I had never even seen or heard of the name Carys until coming on this board, and I think it's quite odd. In fact, i'm still unsure of how to pronounce it!

  • Lovely choices!

I do agree though that Carys Moira is a bit of a mouthful.  I would use Mary, Maria or Marie instead.

  • Thanks Ladies! Oh, Carys rhymes with Paris :)
  • I actually like Moira better than Carys.  What about switching them and going with Moira Carys?  I think that flows a little better.

  • Carys Moira is unique in a good way. You may face some pronounciation questions, but as long as you are cool with that, I say it's a fine name.

(Just asked the hubby -- he really likes it too.)
