Just got this email:
Effective Immediately:
? All drinks leaving the break room must have secured lids
? All drinks in the office area must also have secured lids
? Please use the supplied Styrofoam cups and lids
Apparently clean carpet is more important than the previous green ("bring your own cup") and cost saving initiatives.
I am wondering if there will be a lid gestapo too. What will be the punishment? Public caning? Stocks?
Re: Apparently we need sippy cups at work....
that's super annoying.
i don't like how they're supplying styrofoam. what a joke.
i have one of these that i use at work and i really like it.
Maybe someone dumped a big class of water/cup of coffee on their computer, hence the requirement for lids. I'm not a fan of Styrofoam either, but it's probably more cost effective than replacing electronics.
Balihaigirl's got a great suggestion with the reusable water bottle. You can also bring a coffee travel tumbler for hot drinks.
You could always get something like this.

The replacing the carpet in one of the office areas instigated the email. That cheap industrial carpet that comes in squares, and is recyclable.
I find this hilarious.
And the thought of enforcement.
(FWIW I personally use one of those rubbermaid straw bottles)
I use this one. I call it my sippy cup

Can't you use something like this? They're reusable plastic tumblers with straw. I got one as a promo at a conference and I love it, especially the straw portion. I wouldn't use the styrofoam cups at all. I'd just bring my own reusable cup.
ETA: My last employer made it an incentive to bring your own reusable cups. We had a cafeteria on site and they would knock off $.05 from your soda or coffee purchase if it was in your own container.
