Food Allergy

New here!

Hi!

I introduced myself in the intro post when the food allergy board first came about, but haven't had much time to check in here.  Now, I am going to try and be a little more active.

My oldest Emma is 3 and she is allergic to peanuts, egg, and dairy.  Levi is 17 months and he actually going to the allergist today for testing.  He has had reactions to egg and dairy so far.  As an infant he was on Nutramigen, but now can tolerate soy.

I hope to learn alot from you all and hope I can be helpful to you all as well!

  • Let us know how he did!  We have similar allergies with our first LO, but so far nothing with LO #2.  HOWEVER, she has never had eggs or peanuts or tree nuts.  I am just starting to give her dairy.

  • Thanks for the welcome ladies!! Yesterday was interesting.  I described my son's reaction egg to the Allergist and he is pretty sure that he had a pretty serious reaction and didn't even wait for the blood test results to come back to prescbribe us an epi-pen.  So, we are testing for egg, dairy, oranges and a couple of other fruits.

The allergist and I disagreed on if he should be tested for peanuts and treenuts.  My daughter is allergic to them, but my son has never had them.  Allergist wants us to try giving him a very little bit of pb on our own.  If he reacts in any way then he will test.  We don't agree on that point.  I think he should just be tested right away.

We went over the the hospital lab to have the RAST done and it was just terrible.  He had to be poked in both arms b/c the blood stopped flowing from one arm because he was tensing up.  Then I got a call from the lab that one of the samples started clotting so we have to go back and do it again today. :(

  • We are good friends with a couple whos daughter has allergies to multiple food items. When I was speaking to her about being upset that the DR wouldn't test my DD for other food allergies while doing the egg test she told me HER dr said they don't like to just start doing a whole series of tests because sometimes it can come back as a false positive. Now, I do not know how truthful this statement is but maybe this could be his underlying reason? Or he's a jerk lol

Yeah, that was what the Dr told me... I don't know, I hate having to try it on my own and him have a terrible reaction, that just scares me.  On the other hand, it would be good to know one way or another.
