Trying to Get Pregnant

Am I being ridiculous?

I have had poison ivy. Its gross, its bad, but its finally healing. I have used caladryl clear for about a week to dry it up right around O. Now, at 11DPO I have "something" on my feet and one knee. (sorry to all you feet haters out there). Its red and bumpy, and its either a rash like poison ivy (again?) or a TON of bug bites all in one place. It itches like no other. I got out the caladryl clear again, thinking nothing of it.

Then I looked it up online, its a category C drug. I have not tested (trying to hold out until Saturday). Should I have guilt about using this at this point in the game? I don't want to cause any potential fetus any harm, obviously, but it itches beyond belief. If I call my doc, he'll make me come in and then over prescribe drugs. UGH.  The label says if you are pregnant or breastfeeding consult your doctor, but TTC is such a grey area!

What would you fellow TTCers do?

  • I don't think any topical ointment will cause harm to an unborn child.

SNS, please inform yourself before spewing out ridiculously false info.

OP, I really wouldn't worry about it since you haven't tested positive. If you are that worked up about it, why not call a nurse at your doctor's office and ask what they recommend?

  • THANKS ALL! No, I'm not SERIOUSLY that crazy, or worked up about it at all. I just kind of needed to hear from some internet strangers to confirm what I read and thought...until you are confirmed KU, carry on treating your ailments normally. WHEN/IF KU, consult your doctor. I don't know if this is Poison Ivy or Bug bites, I was stupidly traipsing around in my yard/vine patch with flip flops on the other day, as well as spending lots of time in the grass with the dogs. I'm sure I'll be fine, I just needed a little reassurance.

To the PP who is KU with poison ivy--that SUCKS! I feel for you. Hopefully you get some relief soon.

Thanks all, for your time. And to BlueEyedDreamer--Don't worry. I knew SNS's info wasn't quite spot on. lol.

This.  Yeah, there are plenty of substances that, applied topically, could cause harm to a fetus.

I don't know about Caladryl, but I agree with PPs about talking to a pharmacist or doctor.

Try soaking it in some warm water with oatmeal.  That can help dry up the bites/ivy and take away the itch a little bit.  Or else try oatmeal soap.

I hate being itchy... it's one of the most annoying things ever.

This is what I recommend - I had a REALLY BAD case of poison ivy last summer (on my feet as well, dumb a$$ and no shoes in the yard) and the man at the health food store recommended to soak them in an oatmeal and warm water bath.  it's really very gross and slimy feeling but it helped the itch like nothing else (I've also heard works wonders on a bad sunburn)!  They also had some homeopathic creams that I was going to try had the oatmeal not worked.  I was not TTC at that time but I'm sure anyone in the store would be able to help you with something that would be TTC-Friendly.  GL to you!!

AND YES - I cannot imagine having Poison Ivy and being pregnant... you poor thing!  Feel better (and OP as well of course)
