Need sleeping/eating advice

My DD is a month old today.  Up until the last week or so, she was eating every 4 hours all day (with the occasional longer period during the day) & 4-6 oz.

This past week, she had been eating 6 oz pretty much every feeding, but only going about 3 hours in between.  To try to extend her sleeping time at night, I've been waking her every 3 hours during the day but it seems like that has only made her wake every 3 hours at night though.

The other thing that has changed in the last week is that she is falling asleep eating more, which means a lot of the time she is only actually taking 3-4 oz.

Does anyone have something similar happening or have any suggestions on what I should do?  Maybe the eating every 3 hours during the day will help but it'll take a week to get her to change?

I'm just dying to get her at least back to the 4 hours at night!  Oh, and there are still times during the day that she'll sleep longer that 4-so maybe she still has her days & nights mixed up?

Also, she sleeps in her crib at night & in her RNP mostly during the day.  She doesn't seem to have a problem with the crib (doesn't cry when put in there even awake) but my husband swears that she doesn't like it as much & thats why she won't sleep longer in there.

Re: Need sleeping/eating advice

  • It's really normal for a one month old to be waking every 3 hours night and day. I doubt she has her days and nights mixed up (this usually happens early on and is fixed by now) but her little tummy just needs to eat often.  Everything I've read said that babies change their "schedules" as they grow to meet their needs.  It looks like she's eating pretty much the same amount during a 24 hour period, she just needs to eat more often.
