Trying to Get Pregnant

Have you O'd from same side for consecutive months?

Hi all, (posting from phone - please forgive formatting) I've not been posting as much these last few weeks because it's too much of a pain from my phone but I still read everyday! My question: Have any of you noticed that you've ovulated from the same side a couple times in row when things are otherwise healthy? I assumed it would always alternate and I have been the last few cycles but yesterday (about 4 days prior to when I was expecting to O) I felt O pain on my right side. I honestly passed it off as a weird cramp cuz I thought it was too early and that it would be on my left side this month. So I went on about my day and forgot all about it until my temp spiked this morning! Now I'm pretty sure I O'd yesterday. Real bummer cuz we didn't use pre- seed like we were planning to the next few days. The sex-a-thon was supposed to begin today and we never even had the chance ;) Every month there seems to have been some obstacle put before us... Oh well enough venting... Really I just wanted to see if other ladies have experienced the O'ing from the same side for consecutive months. Thanks for your insight!

Re: Have you O'd from same side for consecutive months?

  • I ovulate more often from my left side, when I do ovulate.  But I wouldn't have known that if I wasn't seeing an RE.  That said, I've been told that many women have 1 ovary that's more active than the other, so it's not uncommon to O from the same side a few months in a row.

    Hope that helps!

That's really interesting! I favor my left. While I was in college I had some serious sharp abdomen pains. A hospital visit later I learned that I had some gnarly ovarian cysts that were normal, and common, but they ruptured on their own, causing the pain. I feel like I'm super in-tune with what my ovaries are doing because each month I feel that little pull and think, "ACK, is this normal ovulation or the start of that awful cyst pain" SO FAR, its been ovulation. And most often, my body chooses the left ovary. GL to you!

(FWIW, your timing isn't that bad this month, OP. If you ovulated yesterday at least you BD'd the day before! That's better than nothing)

  • I read somewhere that it's a myth that you O from alternating sides every month. It's just whichever side proves to be dominate that cycle. When I O from my right side I normally get a cyst, which I can feel. So, I know for sure what side I O'd from when a cyst is present. So far, for me, I've felt a cyst on my right side every other cycle - but I'm sure sooner or later I'll have consecutive months with or without the cyst (which possibly means I O'd from the same side consecutive months).

So I wouldn't worry about anything if I were you. If you did O from the side you had the pain on - it's totally normal from what I understand.

I totally know what you mean! I just posted about cysts, too. Every month I feel the same way you do and wonder if I'm feeling ovulation or the beginning of an awful cyst. That's good news that you've been cyst-free for awhile. No cyst for me this month (thank goodness!) - now I'm just hoping it stays that way.

  • Thanks ladies! I don't feel so odd now ;-). Timing wasnt awful but when we BD on cycle day 8 & 9 we used a lubricant other than pre-seed so I'm sure any sperm in there was promptly killed. From now on Pre-seed will be the only thing we use. At least I'm getting lessons learned with each cycle that passes!
