Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone using the CBEFM?

Hey ladies! If you're using the CBEFM, when do you BD?

1. ED during high and peak fertility

2. EOD during high and peak fertility

3. Only peak days

4. Peak days and the day after

5. Something else

Also, do you temp in addition to the CBEFM?

(Sorry, I'd make this a clicky poll, but I can't figure out how to do that. :/ )

TIA! :)

Re: Anyone using the CBEFM?

  • Great question, I'm looking forward to seeing the responses that come in.

I'm using the CBEFM, and this is my first month. The first thing I'll say is that apparently people get many more high (but not peak) readings in their first month, so this affects the response.

I'm on CD 14 and have had 3 high readings. Each days evenings I have use/will use regular OPKs. The OPKs, as far as I understand it, look for luteinizing hormone, which is realeased 24-36 hours before ovulation. This hormone would trigger a peak reading on the Monitor. So far, whilst the Monitor says I am in high fertility, the OPKs come out definitively negative.

The Monitor, on the other hand, tests for estrogen as well as LH, and will give a high reading when estrogen is high.

In an ideal world to optimise chances of conceiving I think one should BD the last day or two or 'high's' and definitely the two days of peak. The problem is that in the first few months it's hard to identify the last 'high' day.

Of course it's a personal choice, but we have decided to BD EO day during high (starting to BD from the second day of high).

I temp in addition to using the monitor, but so far I haven't ovulated.

As I said, it's only month 1, so we'll see how my method pans out,  but I hope this helps!

  • YesPP, this is my first month using the CBEFM too. I am on CD13 and just got my first high reading. I am temping and using OPK's as well. I have not yet gotten a +OPK and I have not seen my temp jump either (which I guess is a good thing since DH is at work till tomorrow). We plan to start the sexathon as soon as he gets home from work.

  • We BD:

    1. ED during high and peak fertility

    4. Peak days and the day after Also, do you temp in addition to the CBEFM?

Yes.  I like to confirm that the CBEFM is on track.  This is my second cycle using it and so far it's been pretty dead on.  I had a temp rise this morning after my second peak reading yesterday, so I'm pretty sure I Oed yesterday.

My CBEFM went from Low to Peak this cycle, and that kind of bummed me out because we didn't get as much BD in before O since I wasn't expecting to O yet.

However, I'd much rather use the CBEFM than just guess which day I'm going to O based on past cycles, and I'd much rather use the CBEFM than OPKs because I hate OPKs... I have trouble reading them and peeing on them several times a day... too much hassle!

  • This is our first cycle with the monitor: We tried to BD at least EOD during my fertility window and for good measure included the last high day. This ensured we get one of the peaks no matter what. I temped in addition so that way I know for sure if I ovulated and to provide me with more data.I also used the opk this cycle, just to be sure...
