Pregnant after 35

First Appt - Next Week

Hi all - For those who are more experienced (or further along), will I be considered high risk based on age only? If so, does this mean automatic testing? Any light you can shed would be appreciated!

Re: First Appt - Next Week

  • I am 37 and the first time I was pregnant I was not considered high risk.  I had a miscarriage and am pregnant again and am still under the care of my RE and will be going to a new OBGYN once I get released from my RE so I am not sure about my status now.  Due to my past MC it may put me in a higher risk category  but am tending to think probably not but the new office said they will be watching me more closely.

As for testing, it has been my experience that you are given the options of any and all testing.  They do not force you to test, or at least that is my experience they haven't.  They give you your options and allow you to decide what you and your partner/Husband are comfortable doing.

Hope that helps!  Congrats and Good Luck :)

  • I wasn't considered high risk with my first pregnancy at 36/37. All testing was optional for me. I assume I'm not high risk with this pregnancy either at 39. No mention was made of that.
  • I am not considered high risk for age only. All screening and testing was presented as optional.

  • It depends on your doctor, really.  I'm reasonably healthy, even though I have had high-risk stuff in past pregnancies, and my doctor pretty much treats me like anyone else.  I'm 43.

  • Age alone doesn't make you high risk. I never had anything extra because of my age. All testing is ALWAYS optional no matter what your age or situation.
