Using portable DVD player in the car?

How do you do this? I've seen lots of posts referring to using them, but I am not quite sure of the logistics. We got one for James for Christmas and have yet to use it, both because he doesn't really have the attention span to watch anything longer than a 3-minute youtube video but also because I'm not quite sure how to use it in the car.

Do you strap it to the back of the front seat somehow? Or have a special case? Or does your DC just hold it? I think James would probably toss it eventually if we just gave it to him to hold, or he'd want to press all the buttons.

Thanks!

Re: Using portable DVD player in the car?

  • Ours came with straps to attach to the back of the head rests. It certainly came in handy for long road trips. Ours broke recently and makes for a cranky Nolan when we have to go somewhere far!

You can buy a headrest mount...I think DH got ours from Amazon.
  • Mine is built in to my car- so since DD is rear facing still she can't watch it. I know they do make some sort of thing to attach a portable one to the headrest, I would just make sure it's very secure- in an accident that could become a flying object and hurt your LO, and I certianly would not let LO hold it for the same reason.

  • Ours is made for in car use.  Came with 2 monitors, plugs into the cig lighter and straps to the headrest of the front seat(s).  You can plug head phones in or not.

  • Thanks, all. It also just occurred to me (duh) that both my kids are still rear facing, so I guess I would have to wait to use it anyway!

  • We let DD hold it and "lock" it so she can't press buttons.  That has worked so far.  When she switches to forward facing we may put it in a headrest holder or we may not.
