"why the Seattle board needs to get active again."
what is with bumpies "adopting" each other?! I've seen this on the "trying to get pregnant" board, don't know if it's happening elsewhere. There is lots of talk about being adopted by this bumpie and "learning to parent" by "co-parenting" with this bumpie. WTF?! I feel like this just brings the bumpie culture to a whole other level of ridiculous.
Also, do you know people who "chart" in real life, or is this mostly a bumpie thing? I've never heard anyone talk about this off of thebump.com. of course, people don't really talk about the intimate details of their cycle in "real life." Is this something you knew about before the bump?
We're gearing up to TTC soon so I've been lurking over there...
Re: observations from the national boards, aka..
Never heard or seen the adopt a bumpie thing... but I don't venture out too much past the Seattle board.
I do know people who chart IRL, they were doing it before I headed to the bump! I have no idea how to do it though, because we got pg before I looked into charting.
I have no idea what you mean by ?adopting? but I know plenty of women who chart to TTC and to TTA. I charted to avoid for a few years long before I came to the bump. ?Taking Charge of Your Fertility? is not a bump phenomenon.
I've lurked a little bit on TTGP but it's just a little too intense over there for me. Too many rules about what you can and cannot say. I have seen the "adopt a bumpie" thing, but I'm still not sure what it is exactly. I like to stick close to the Seattle Bumpies. It's waaay less scary here.
As far as charting; yes I do know non-bumpies that charted while TTC. In fact a friend of mine loaned me her TCOYF book when we started TTC and she has no clue what The Bump is. I think charting is maybe something many people don't know about until they are starting their TTC journey, unless they are using charting for birth control.
I agree with the "it takes a village..." but I think the adopt-a-bumpie thing is weird, a little clique-y/cultish, and maybe a way for people to feel more connected when they don't have a local board of people they could meet IRL.
As far as charting goes, I did chart for a long time after I quit BC trying to figure out what was going on with my cycles (or lack thereof). It helped me learn a lot about my body, and it was what tipped me off that I finally might be pregnant after a long time of trying - and I was! I think it's pretty amazing how it works.
Agreed!
Oooh are these TTC related? Do tell.
I think the "adopting" thing is like on HS sports teams where you give your selected person little gifts throughout the year. On one of the boards (i don't recall which), there is a limit of $50, i think, and you can give one gift or several small ones, as you see fit.
I think charting is fairly common both to prevent and attain pregnancy. I just think people IRL don't talk about it.
I get the "adopting" thing for the most part, but I don't see how you would give your address to a total stranger living wherever in the country. It's different on this board since a lot of us have met or know each other from somewhere whether it's work or high school or church or something...
I knew about charting before I got to TB, but I am not sure WTF adopting a Bumpie is all about. I haven't lurked on the Nat'l boards for a long time.
The only thing that I learned from TB, that I didn't read or hear elsewhere, was the "Don't eat deli meat cause listeria can killz you," rule. Needless to say, I didn't follow it. And I ate soft serve every day! Mmmm, Mc Flurries.

You just have to ask an infertile!!! Send me an email at mrskiltlifter at gmail dot com and I will tell you all the secrets us infertiles do to help with the fertility process.
Oh my gosh, thank you! I will shoot you an email today.
This exactly. Charting is huge for many women who've never even heard of the Bump. It's the entire basis behind natural family planning. That concept, in various forms, has been around as long as the Catholic church has been.
I think we, in the US, don't learn about our bodies and how they work as much as they do in other countries, so it's foreign to us.
I know! If they made sugar-free Mc Flurries, I would eat one everyday!
