After many failed IUIs and a failed mini-ivf experience (of two eggs, neither fertilized past 4 cells), I've become even more frustrated, not to mention sad and deflated. My RE suggested moving on to DE after our mini-ivf. I'm just wondering if anyone has any success stories using their OE for (regular) IVF or otherwise? TIA
TTC since May 2009 - DOR (ovarian cancer)
DE w RBA December 2011 - transferred one embryo 12/14 - three frosties
Beta #1 - 129 (12/22)
Beta #2 - ? (12/26)
Re: Any success stories for those with poor egg quality?
It is suspected that I have poor egg quality just based on how my eggs respond once fertilized. This past cycle I had 16 eggs fertilize (8 with ICSI, 8 without), by transfer day, I was down to 6 that had survived and none of those were the ICSI'd ones. It's suspected that lower quality eggs dont respond well to ICSI. Anyway, IVF#4 was the charm for me and I even have frosties to boot.
Don't give up!
::raises hand::
I was 38 years old and my initial Dx was DOR. We also had some slight MFI (low count and poor motility), so we were recommended to go straight to IVF.
My 1st IVF cycle, I only produced 4 eggs, all 4 fertilized, 3dt of 3 ok embryos, BFN.
My 2nd IVF cycle, I produced 5 eggs, 4 fertilized, 3dt of 2 better looking embryos, c/p.
My 3rd IVF cycle, cancelled and converted to IUI due to incorrect protocol directions. This was supposed to be my "closure" cycle before moving on to DE. But due to the error, my 4th cycle was free, so we went ahead and tried one final time with my OE.
My 4th IVF cycle, 1 produced 6 eggs, 6 fertilized, 5dt of 2 great looking morulas, BFP.
I did make some changes from my 1st cycle to my successful cycle. I started acupuncture, I took DHEA to try and improve egg quality, I took CoQ10, and we changed protocols (EPP with an Agonist/Antagonist Conversion Protocol - to help improve stimming).
I don't know what made the difference or if I finally just go lucky.
I did take very high dosages for all of my cycles, just to produce a few eggs. My meds ran $6-7,000 per cycle.
I do want another child, but I plan on doing DE for #2. I can't put my body or my family through that many attempts again.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Good luck!
ETA: We did ICSI with all on my cycles and had really good fert rates. It was definitely more of an egg issue for us than a sperm issue.
