Northern California Babies

Sutter Solano vs. Northbay for Delivery

Hi fellow Northern CA Moms!  This is my first post on "the bump".

I am pregnant with my first child, due in mid October and was wondering if any of you Solano County moms had experience with Sutter Solano and Northbay Medical Centers.  My doctors will delivery at either one so I am interested in getting your reviews and opinions on which one you were happier with, etc.

Thank you!!

Amy

  • I don't have any info on them since I'm a Kaiser Mom, but I wanted to say hi!  I live in Fairfield as well :)

  • Hi there!  I'm bummed about not having Kaiser anymore...was laid off in November and had to move over to hubby's insurance.  Having good luck with the change so far, just hoping to keep it positive.

    Nice to "meet" you!

  • Welcome to the boards!  I've delivered babies at both hospitals.  My first was born at Northbay and my 2nd and 3rd were born at Sutter.  From what I've seen most of the doctors are the same (my insurance dictated where I ended up - not my doctors.  They were available at both hospitals.)

Northbay was great because it is 7 minutes from my house and easy access.  The nursing staff was good. The birthing rooms and recovery rooms are all private rooms.  It wasn't super busy when DS1 was born so they were very attentive and checking on us quite a bit and  for me it was kind of annoying.  DS1 ended up having to do bili lights and the pediatric wing was great but hopefully you won't need that!  Being close to the mall there are lots of places for Dad to go and grab something to eat but don't expect the cafeterial to be open (every time my hubs went to try to eat it was closed)

DD and DS2 were born at Sutter because insurance dictated that scheduled inductions were to be done there.  The birthing rooms were big and private but not all of the recovery rooms are.  With DD we had a private room and our stay was very laid back and we got everything that we needed when we needed it; but with DS2 we had to share with a a girl that had a HUGE family and lots of friends and it was a CRAZY day/night in the OB ward!  I think 15 babies were born that night!  We did get what we really needed when we needed it but it was sooo busy they didn't have a lot of time to fulfill a lot of special requests from patients so there were a lot of pissed off people there (not the staff's fault at all!)  There are not too many places for Dad to eat super close but there is a cafeteria there that is always open (vending machines)

Overall they are both great hospitals and honestly quality of care was about the same at both.  All I can advise is to get to know all of the doctors in your practice  because no matter where you go you will likely end up with whoever is the on-call doctor and you may not even see your OB.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

    Rina
