(silly?) question about prepping prefolds

Should I use detergent when prepping prefolds? So far I've washed and dried my bleached cotton ones twice, and the Indian cotton prefolds are in the washer right now, starting their 4th wash/dry cycle. I've been using 1 scoop of Charlie's laundry soap each time, but do I need to be? I mean, they're not dirty, but does it help to get the oils off? TIA.

I use detergent in every wash to help break up the oils.
