Trying to Get Pregnant

Should I disregard today's temp?

For the past week I have been having trouble sleeping and it has really been messing with my chart.  This is my first cycle temping and if I would wake up in the middle of the night I would temp and then try to go back to sleep. I didn't want to wait until my regular time (6am) since often I would wake up at 4 or 5 and would not have had a full 3 hours sleep.  Because of this my chart is filled with open circles.  I recently vowed to only temp and 6 since usually I am able to fall back asleep very quickly.  This worked well Monday night however last night I woke up at 3:15/3:20 and didn't temp thinking I would fall right back asleep.  Wrong. At 4 I was still wide awake and frustrated so I temped then.  I never fell back asleep so at 6 I didn't even bother.  My question is...should I completely disregard my temp since I had been up for almost a full hour?

Re: Should I disregard today's temp?

  • I would go ahead and enter it, then mark sleep deprived on your chart.  Thats just me though.

FWIW I had huge issues sleeping my first month or two of temping too, eventually I got used to it and my sleep went back to normal.  GL

  • Im having the same issues with a 5AM temp time. I often wake up at 3 and wont fall back to sleep or if I do its for an hour or so.

I don't get up, or even sit up, so as long as I fall back to sleep before 4 I temp at 5 and mark sleep deprived. If I wake up after 4, (within an hour of my normal time) I temp then and just mark the new time.

This seemed to be working well until last night. I temped at 4:15 b/c I was awake enough I didn't think I'd fall back to sleep - temp was 97.14. I did fall back asleep and decided to just temp and see what it was at 5 (expecting it to be higher). It was 96.58 at 5AM. Now I am utterly confused and think I am going to take the advice to get up at 3AM next cycle :)

  • FWIW, I agree that you can record it, and mark it as sleep deprived. You'll have it on record, but know that it isn't quite accurate. I did the same thing this morning, I'm just one day ahead at 10DPO. I was ultra disappointed, because I wanted my temps to go up and it went down. While I was doing this 2WW freak out last cycle, a wise bumpie told me that once you definitely confirm O, the temps don't really matter so much as long as they are in the same quadrant and not below the coverline. I hope that is the case due to today's temp dip. But like you, I got up about an hour too early and couldn't go back to sleep.  GL to you this cycle!!!

I would personally mark the temp you got at 4 and mark it as sleep deprived.

Also...do you find you always wake up around 330-4? Maybe next cycle change that to your temping time? You can take the temp and then go back to bed since it sounds like this is what you usually do? Usually BBT's have a memory so at 6 once you are up for good then you can check what the temp at 4ish was.

Just an idea I don't really have experience in this. Hopefully someone else might :) GL

EDIT: just noticed you are in the 2ww. If you don't get quite exact temps from what I understand it is not going to affect anything at this point! Lots of people stop temping when they get to the 2ww. At this poit you just have to wait for AF or hopefully a BFP :)

This.  I have had my usual wake up and temp time at 530a but I found myself waking up almost every night somewhere in the 4 o'clock hour.  I would either temp or just lay very still to try and fall back to sleep.  This cycle I decided to make my default time 430a and set my alarm for 5a.  That way, if I woke up anywhere in the 4 o'clock hour and temped I would be good.  And if I slept all the way through to me alarm, I would still be good.   (FF allows a half an hour either way to still give a closed circle.)  I have found that this makes me worry less about open circles or closed circles... so I have been sleeping through to my alarm!  Before, I was so worried about temping I would wake up thinking I missed the alarm.  Now I am more at ease!!

  • Thanks for the tip.  I am fairly new to the game so I completely forgot about the sleep deprived option.  I usually am a very sounds sleeper and so waking up so often in the middle of the night this past month has been driving me crazy.  I feel like my day has already gotten off on the wrong foot and it hasn't even started yet.  If this continues I will just temp at 4.  Thanks everyone for your advice!
