Trying to Get Pregnant

Need T&P Today

Hi, just asking for a few of your T&P today.  I have to go see a plastic surgeon (not for some new bewbies, although that would be a bonus!) to take a look at an area where I had a mole removed because when they tested it they said the cells were "moderately abnormal".  Just a little nervous as to what the next step will be.  I had three others removed and they were all fine.

Darn tanning.  I now wear SPF 50 Yes

Thanks everyone!  Have a great day!

Re: Need T&P Today

  • No snark intended, but may I ask why you're seeing a plastic surgeon and not a dermatologist? There is melanoma in my family so I don't take chances...I got one mole removed by a derm and I'm keeping an eye on two others. I'll probably get those whacked off eventually (like maybe when I don't have a toddler to pick at the gauze ha ha). Anyway, GL to you and T&P that everything is okay!

  • Good luck.  I had 2 moles removed 13 years ago.  One of them was so irregular looking, they took a picture of it with a special camera.  That one came back borderline melanoma.  They cut out the area all around that to make sure they had gotten all of it.  That was the end of it for that mole, I just have a long scar on my arm from it.  Hopefully that will be your experience as well.

I too am curious about the plastic surgeon. Are you going there to minimize scaring and they send your samples to a dermatologist? If so I'm jealous, my scar is not pretty.  A constant sun screen reminder.

  • The dermatologist was the one who removed the initial moles.  Once they got the labs back, they called and told me to make an appointment with the plastic surgeon.  I guess so they can get all of the tissue around it, as PP said, with minimal scarring.  My sister-in-law sees a different derm who had her do the same thing when they removed a mole with suspicious cells.  I wonder if it is just something they do around here?  Who knows.  Hopefully the scarring is minimal- it's right on my breast where it would show in a bathing suit!

    Thanks for your thoughts :)

  • Good luck.  I have had the same thing, although my dermatologist did the further removal.  I had some moles that looked abnormal so they did the scrape removal.  When the margins didn't clear, they had to remove more.  They actually cut out a big chunk and stitched it up, where before it was just like surface wound.  I am sure the surgeon will be able to take good care of you!!

Good luck with the appointment. I too had to have a mole removed by a plastic surgeon. Because of the size and area that it was in, the dermatologist reccomended that I go to a plastic surgeon to have it done so that it had minimal scarring (in the crease of my elbow). While derms can remove the moles they aren't ''skilled artists'' (for lack of a better term) like a plastic surgeon is when it comes to large surface area on your skin.

I have heard that derms recommend seeing plasic surgeons for more clean removals... and honestly, if I have to get something removed in a visible area..I'm def'ly going to the plastic surgeon. My sister had something removed from her eye by her dermatologist... and it looks AWFUL. I feel so badly for her! They removed a large amount of the area so that all margins were clear which is the "good news" part of the story considering the cells were cancerous.

Anyways, Best of luck to you!!!
