I went to a mom and baby group today that is led by a LC. Someone asked her about how long it takes a baby to process caffeine, and she looked in a reference book. It takes a baby 4 days to process half the caffeine in their body!
How crazy is that?!? I wonder about other things, like foods that would make lo gassy, and how long they would take to work through their system.
I was just completely shocked! If I had realized, I probably would have been more afraid to drink caffeine, luckily she isn't sensitive to it. But, she does have reflux, so it makes me want to not drink any!

I'm weaning right now (we just nurse in the a.m. and before bed right now) and I never knew this. I've been drinking a lot of caffeine, too. Whoopsie.

My LC at the hospital said one soda/coffee a day was ok unless it started making DD fussy.
Another interesting fact about caffeine--its used as a drug in the NICU to help stimulate the breathing reflex in preemies. This is why I researched it in the first place, I didn't want my daily soda to interfere with the treatment.
