Do you and DH go to bed at the same time?

DH has to get up at 5am, I don't have to get up until Ella wakes up (lately 8-9:30ish). DH never goes to bed until I do. I always tell him he can go to bed whenever he wants, but he turns into a baby and says, "but I want you to go to bed too!". I do like going to bed at the same time because then we can talk or whatever ;), but there are days that I don't think it is necessary and he is ALWAYS tired and I blame it on him only getting about 5/6 hours of sleep a night. Just wondering if you and your DH's/SO's go to bed at the same time?

Re: Do you and DH go to bed at the same time?

  • yes, I think I would even if I didn't have to get up for my outside job. I went to bed without him Sat. and I missed him!

  • Heck no. He has to be at work at either 5 or 6, depending on the day. I get up with the boys around 7. He goes down by 9, I head up between 9-10 depending on if I have shows to watch.

  • We used to before the baby.  Now with the baby being up all night and up for the day at 5am I head for bed around 9 and dh stays up later.

  • Nope, almost never.  We did on weekdays, when I was working.  But not often for the last year and half, since I stopped working.  It felt weird, at first.  But there's no reason for me to go to bed early and get up early.  Before baby, I stayed up pretty late and slept in (I'm a night owl).  Now, I'm up with DS every couple hours, round the clock.  I've been mostly been sleeping on the couch lately, too, since it's just easier for me to get back up with J.  The bed is too comfy and this helps keep it quieter in the bedroom for DH.

  • Dh almost always waits for me to get off work before he goes to bed, its silly though because he has to wake up much earlier than I do.   I always tell him he can go to bed earlier, but he rarely does, IDK why...

  • We rarely go to bed at the same time. Half the time he is working nights and the other half he just stays up later than me. I go to bed pretty early though. I am in bed by 8 almost every night, its my time to relax and catch up on all of my shows.
  • When DH worked regular hours (7:30-4:30) we almost always went to bed at the same time. But since he started his 4 10's he works noon-11 and stays up until 1 or 2 am so now we don't. I so miss those days.

  • Nope! I got to bed between 8:30 and 9:00 with Emma. Em and I snuggle and have quiet time while DH watches one of his movies or plays video games. He comes to bed anywhere from 10-12 and wakes up between 7 and 8 usually. When he comes to bed with me, he complains the whole time. I watch TV to fall asleep and he hates that. Him going to bed after I do helps us not tear each others eyes out before we fall asleep :-)

  • I usually go up a little before Steve does, but he usually comes up around when I'm done reading.  Sometimes he stays up later and I'm asleep when he comes to bed.

  • I always go to bed before DH. We have different work hours and I'm just not a night owl, at all. Usually he will come "tuck me in" when I go to bed though. He usually crawls into bed with me for 5-15 minutes and we talk or cuddle as I start to fall asleep. I find that it's a nice compromise for us - I wish we could go to bed at the same time, but I'm happy that he'll just come pretend for a little bit!

  • My DH is like yours and definitely prefers it too!  That said we are in a similar situation to yours but opposite as I'm the one who gets up at 5am and he is at home with the kids.  Sometimes DH will come to bed with me when he is tired, but he has gotten more and more used to staying up late.  Sometimes he'll watch TV in the bedroom with headphones on while I sleep.

  • Yep, we do and always have.  But, we've always had similar schedules.  We go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time.  I like that we do our bedtime and morning routines together. When I was on maternity leave we still went to bed at the same time, but I always slept in if Lucy was sleeping when DH went to work.

I think I know the answer....

We don't. He stays up way late working on jeep or watching movies. And then complains about being tired.  And not having enough sexy time.

This is us usually too.  I have to get up at 2:30 am on my work days and DH doesn't have to get up til Hudson wakes up (6-7 am).  He will come and chat since we only get about 30 minutes of awake time on my work nights. :)

  • We used to be in your situation when I was in college and would stay up late working on something (usually because of procrastination). It always bugged DH that I wasn't going to be with him.  Now, I'm the one who goes to bed earlier, and I never give him a hard time about it.

  • It's totally random for us.  Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.  But our schedules are much more flexible than most peoples, so we don't really have a normal bed time.  Also, DH has pretty severe insomnia that comes and goes so there are nights that he'll end up sleeping downstairs - otherwise he'd be coming to bed at 3 or 4 and then waking me up with his snoring.

We have sleep problems in this house.

  • Haven't in forever.  My DH was working the early morning shift so he was at work by 5am. He would go to sleep hours before me.  Now he is swing shift and is getting home  at 10:30-11ish PM.  He still is wired from work so he is up for a few more hours.  I go to sleep so much earlier than him because I get up with DD and if I work the next day I am up at 6am.  So no we don't go to bed at the same time.

  • I can count on one hand how many times in the last 8 years we've gone to bed seperately...we're both night owls and sort of keep each other in check in terms of getting to bed and getting enough sleep.  Left to our own devices, we would each stay up until 2am or so...but then we still have to be up by 6:30 or earlier every morning.  We have some of our best conversations after we've shut the house down and crawled under the covers...

Lately (since the beginning of this pregnancy pretty much) I fall asleep watching TV and he wakes me up to go to bed.  We'll see how it goes once this LO is keeping one or both of us up more frequently...

  • We rarely go to bed at the same time. He's usually up there by 11-12 and I'm awake till around 2, usually.

  • We always do... and actually I'm paying for it now for the first time.  He's been going into work later and I still get up at 5:30.  These 12am bedtimes suck, I suggested last night that I go to bed earlier, but he just comes up and lays in bed and watches TV.  It seems ridiculous, but I'd want him to want to go to bed with me rather than not.

  • Yes we do.  My DH gets up early too.  Around 4 am.

AS SOON AS  the kids are in bed (usually 8:30 pm) we both go to bed.  He falls asleep instantly and it takes me an hour to drift off.

But I need more sleep then him - so I get 9 hours and he gets about 7.

    That's how I am...Embarrassed

My fiance is between jobs right now so he sometimes naps during the day, and even if he didn't he is just the night owl type. But I LOVE sleep, like freaking adore it, so even pre-pregnancy I would like to be in bed by 10. And while I will eventually go to bed without him, it's not before I whine and pout about it like a baby lol Big Smile
