We're due with number two a month from Saturday. DS will be 21 months in a few days. Daycare has suggested moving him into the two year old room starting next week. We're not sure what would be best. On one hand he's doing really well in his current room and he has some time before he's actually two. On the other hand we think it may be good to have him go through the transition before our LO gets here so that he's settled into the room by then. We weren't sure if moving him in a few months, when our new LO is also a few months old, would be more of transition because things are different at home as well.
Re: Moving DS into new daycare room before or after LO
DS is moving up to another room starting July and I'm due with #2 in August. I'm glad he's going before the baby arrives and will get accustomed to the new routine. (he'll be going from the infant room to the walkers) I think alot of daycares promote kids in July as it begins their new school year and has to do with availability/ waiting lists.
We are trying to limit any other changes for a few months- after like buying a house and moving. : (
If I could choose, I would have DD move up before the baby gets here. I think it will take her less time getting used to her new room and teacher in DC than getting used to her new brother or sister. Unfortunately, that is not up to me and she'll be switching rooms when the baby is a month old at the most.
If all the kids moving up rooms at the same time (that's how it is at our DC), I am thinking it will make the transition easier/faster on your DS as he will keep his friends with him.
