So...I posted the baby's name on FB this past weekend.
Laci Lynn
I understand I'm up for all sorts of comments but was more than thrilled when everyone said how much they loved it. Not that it mattered- she's our daughter- but it just felt great to have everyone's support.
After 25 comments and 26 likes a co-worker of mine just posted this: "Ummm...Keri...that kind of sounds like a porn star's name. I'm just saying...maybe you guys should think about it a little bit longer! LOL"
Really? Are you kidding? If you don't like my daughter's name that's fine, I know it isn't everyone's style but maybe word your response with a little more tact?
Or am I'm being too mother hen already? Sheesh.
BTW...I held my tongue in my response just now: "eh, every name can sound like a porn star/stripper name...we both like it so it's a go!
"
Re: Wow...FB post...
Maybe you could just respond, "Thanks for the input. You know, we were considering using (insert her name) but really thought that sounded a little too much like a b, porn star, trash, whatever mean thing you want to say."
In reality, I don't know how I'd respond to that but I don't think you're being too overprotective. That was a rude and inappropriate comment of her to make. BTW, I love the name!
@Jess O- I don't think she was kidding...I'm surprised she said that honestly...I mean, she looks like an ass to everyone that has commented or liked my posted seeing as how they probably just got an email notifying them that she said that. I posted last year or so about considering going to Haiti with my church to help out to which she responded "Why would you want to go to that disease ridden country?" or something to that affect.
@babs- thanks!
Wow. Just wow.
Yes. Further to that, where is her house and how many cartons of rotten eggs do I need to pick up on the way?
Thanks again ladies...I completely expected people to dislike the name but also expected them to dislike it with a little more tact. lol
@Mimi...eh, not worth the time. And her DH works for one of the law enforcement agencies here.
I don't understand why people think its acceptable to chime in to criticize a name after its picked. If you're asking for opinions, that is one thing, but if its been decided, why don't they just bite their tongue if they don't like it?
Don't worry about it. Not every name is for everyone.

We also had to choose to not announce name ideas after my parents said that they hated the first one. Then my BFF said that the second name sounded like a dog's name. : /
What?! People need to keep their mouths shut if they can't say something nice.
And, Keri, I think the name is really pretty!
I think sometimes people view it as "I need to tell them now that X is a bad name, before they name their kid." And I can see that as a legitimate belief is a parent is considering a truly bad name, for instance Chanda Lear or Justin Case or Abcde, etc. I'd say something. Or if a facebook friend told me she wanted to named her son Queyvhyn, pronounced Kevin, I'd gently try to talk her into a more conventional spelling, whether she asked my opinion or not.
But those are extreme examples. Laci Lynn is perfectly fine for a little girl, and no, it's not a stripper name. My sister and BIL just bought a house from a stripper-turned-real estate- investor named Sha Sha Touche. THAT is a stripper name.

Thanks ladies for all of the supportive responses! I don't question our name choice for a minute...I'm confident. It was already in my top 5 but I had not mentioned it and when he did....it immediately sounded and felt right. I would not have posted it if we were at all unsure. But dang it, your responses and support are going to make me more emotional that homegirl's opinion.
xoxo girls!

I agree with this.
What she did was definitely rude, and I agree with all the PP's about defriending. One thing that I think about in these situations, especially with rude facebook comments, is that this person is showing the world what a rude person they are. So not only were they rude to you, but they just announced to the world what a rude/thoughtless/selfish/ignorant person they are. I know this is weird, but in some way, this makes me feel better. It is almost better than someone being a jerk to you in private, because you can only tell the story so many times. When people do it on facebook, it is right there for everyone to see.
Know exactly what you mean. Another co-worker was disappointed that my response was so suttle but I figure that she has already shown all of my FB friends what an a$$ she is...I don't need to help her out and by me being nice it only makes her look even more ridiculous! lol
