My FIL built Emma a beautiful book shelf. It's currently unfinished. I want it painted white. Her crib is white, her dresser is white, the rocker in the room is white.  DH thinks I'll regret it later when it's white and her bedroom set changes, or it'll look dingy... He thinks it should just be stained.  I asked my Mom and she said it should be white or would look silly in her room. DH's parents prefer stained wood. No help there- hehe

Finally DH said... "do whatever you want" lol

So WWYD?

I think it would depend on the wood - if its a really nice quality, I would probably stain it.

It's a beautiful shelf and he did a good job on it... but I did notice on the top shelf the wood of the back of the book shelf had like a black look to it

Does your crib convert to a bed?  If it does I would def. paint it white bc she will be using that same set for awhile.  Good luck.

Yes it does, it converts to a twin bed.

If her bed converts, you will be using the set for awhile.  She might even have white furniture the whole time.  I would paint it.

Our dresser and bookshelf is white but our crib will be a stained wood.. It doesn't look bad.

I say paint it white.  If the colors in the room change, then you can paint it another color.  The black on the back is probably from him cutting the wood and then not sanding it down.  The table saw can get hot enough to burn the wood.

What about a white stain? They have colored stains now. it the wood is light enough it might look neat.
