Sending toast to daycare??

I'm really struggling with foods to send to daycare for DD. At home, she's starting to eat things we do - she had risotto and ratatouille (sp?) for dinner last night, sometimes tofu, waffles, cheese, etc. But I'm struggling with daycare ideas. They gave me a list, and the idea of sending pancakes, waffles, or toast baffles me.

What do you do, toast them in the morning, cut them up into pieces, and let them sit in the fridge for 4-5 hours at daycare until they are ready for lunch? Would you eat 4-5 hour old toast? Maybe I'm thinking about it too much, or maybe I'm too much of a foodie, but the thought of sending some of these finger foods just seems so odd to me. But then again, I'm not having much luck coming up with my own ideas.

Ideas?? What's your opinion on the toast/waffles?

  • I'm not sure about the toast idea.  It sounds kind of yucky to me.  Waffles or pancakes might work, though, if you freeze them.  I always freeze extra pancakes when I make them.  They microwave in a few seconds and are great for a quick breakfast.  Maybe if you could keep them frozen until they're needed at daycare so they don't get soggy?

  • We send in a box of frozen pancakes and waffles and they heat them for breakfast

  • I toast the waffle for breakfast, cut it up, and he eats it right away when he gets there in the morning. So it hasn't been sitting in the fridge. I've never sent those items for lunch. A lot of times for lunch I'll send veggies, mac and cheese, cut up pieces of chicken, and pasta.

    This exactly.

  • I send sandwiches. Regular bread spread with cream cheese and a slice of ham of some shredded chicken. In addition I send lots of diced fruit. Today DS has half a banana, a kiwi, a wedge of pear and dried prune and apricot. I usually send food he can feed himself to make life easier. Though he's only in there 3 hours two mornings a week so it's mellow.
