So I love the name Elizabeth but don't love how common it is. I have been looking at variations of Elizabeth and came across a few I like and would love your thoughts.
I think it partly depends on your last name/ background. Elspeth is pretty, but I think it wouldn't flow with a Latin or Italian last name (and the reverse for Elisabetta, though that name is NMS). I like Eliza personally. There's also Lisbeth (Scandinavian).
I have liked Elspeth since I saw The Flame Trees of Thika (Elspeth Huxley's memoir of her time on a Kenyan tea plantation). Of the two you have listed, I would pick Elspeth.
Have you considered the Russian variant, Elizaveta, or perhaps Lisette, or Elissa? Or going in a slightly different direction, what about Annalisa?
The capitalized ones are because I copy and pasted them from BehindTheName, and I couldn't make them lower case because they have accent marks that I don't know how to type.
Variations of Elizabeth: AL?BETA- Czech AL?BETA- Slovak Ealasaid- Scottish Ealisaid- Manx Eilis- Irish Eilish- Irish Eliisabet- Estonian (Eliisa) Elikapeka- Hawaiian EL?SABET- Icelandic Elisabet- Scandinavian, Finnish, Biblical Greek Elisabeta- Romanian Elisabete- Portuguese ?LISABETH- French Elisabeth- German, Dutch, Scandinavian, English, Biblical (Variant), Biblical Latin Elisabeti- Old Church Slavic Elisabetta- Italian Elisavet- Greek Elisaveta- Bulgarian, Macedonian Elsabeth- English (Rare) Elspet- Scottish Elspeth- Scottish Elyzabeth- English (Rare) EL?BIETA- Lithuanian ELZBIETA- Polish ERZS?BET- Hungarian (Erzsi, Boszi) Jelisaveta- Serbian Liesbeth- Dutch (Liese, Liesje) Lieselotte- German Lijsbeth- Dutch Lilibeth- English Liselot- Dutch Liselotte- German, Danish (Lotte) Lizaveta- Russian Lizbeth- English Yelizaveta- Russian
We went with Elisabeth as a middle name - we're French so we used the French spelling. Everyone LOVES DDs name and I get so many nice comments about it.
