Daycare help/question

So I'm back to work, working Tuesdays and Fridays.  Our original daycare plan was as follows:

Tuesdays: MIL watches Jackson / Cousin watches Malia
Fridays: MIL watches Jackson 8-12 / Cousin watches Malia 8-12 / My mom takes both kids 12-5.

Cousin backed out and MIL hurt her back really bad....last week. Luckily my BFF has taken Jackson, so we are good for him, however, we have no care for Malia for 1.5 days a week.

Since no daycare will take her 1.5 days a week - what should I do?  DH works from home on Tuesdays and Fridays, but he has to work.  Should I do a "mommy's helper" kind of a gig? Find a SAHM in the area?  Nanny share?  We can't afford to pay a nanny $15-20 a hour.....HELP!

Re: Daycare help/question

  • I would not assume that daycare is not an option for 1.5 days a week. Probably not at a big center, but more so at a small home daycare.  I have had really good luck finding care on craigslist.  They have postings for all sorts of arrangements so I would just start calling lots of places.

Another option (if it would work with your BFF) is to look for preschool/daycare for Jackson for 1.5 days and have BFF watch Malia.  Jackson might like it!

If you end up finding someone who seems great but isn't a licensed daycare provider, message me on facebook if you want info on how to screen them for criminal history/child abuse, etc.

Good luck, finding care is so stressful!

  • Kindercare in Mill Creek does drop ins for toddlers. Maybe J can go there 1.5 days a week and your cousin could watch M?
