Toddlers: 24 Months+

colors

My DD turned 2 at the end of April and she still does not know her colors....she will do a few...Orange, Pink, White and Black.  but most of the time she will just put her face really close to the book and stare at it when i ask her the color.  She is a VERY smart little girl so I am not worried about that.  she can count to 20 in english and 15 in spanish.  she knows almost all her letter and the sounds they make.  this is why it is concerning me, she picks up on everything else so much faster and colors she just cant get!! anyone else have this problem?

Re: colors

  • just point out colors everywhere

cars, trees, shoes, doors, houses, shirt, dogs, etc., etc.

  • She has other areas that interest her more and in which she excels, so I would not be concerned.  FWIW, S says green or yellow everytime I ask him the color of something.  Like pp said, just point out colors everywhere... I think toddlers learn more quickly the things that interest them - maybe colors aren't interesting to her yet.

  • My daughter was the same way! I just kept looking for opportunities... oh, you would like a popsicle, what color is this popsicle? what color is you shirt? She knew a couple, and she got some similar ones mixed up (blue/purple, yellow/orange) but when she was 2 and 3 months it instantly clicked. She just woke up one morning and knew them all perfectly! Just keep working with her and she'll get it :)
