Two Under 2

birth control

I took Ortho Lo for years and didn't have problems with it. However, my doc just prescribed Loestrin 24Fe. He said it is an even lower dose than Ortho Lo, but I have never heard of it since it has been a while since I have taken birth control. Does anyone have any experience with it? I am torn b/c I kind of prefer to not have any hormonal changes as far as any birth control, however this 2 under 2 thing is enough for me at this moment in time. We don't need a third baby in the mix for a few years :)

  • Are you BFing? There are a looooooooooooooooot of surprise BFPs on low-dose BCPs while BFing.

  • My doc put me on Loestrin 24Fe while I waited to get my Mirena.  I had the same problem with it as I have with other BCPs - migraines.  I lasted around 3 weeks on it and quit.  My doctor seemed to think it was a good BCP though, I think I'm just very sensitive to the hormones.  I just got the Mirena in Friday so I'm hopeful that will work out better for us.

  • I opted for an IUD instead of a pill.  I have paraguard and except for longer, heavier AF, I love it.  I always had light, short ones though...

  •  I had the paragard IUD up until a week ago and loved it. Unfortunatly it was starting to expel [stuck in my cervix I am soooo thankful that it was caught right away and I didn't get pregnant!!!] so it was removed. Right now I'm on Lo Loestrin and so far it's okay..no nausea or spotting but then again it's only been a week. It makes me a little nervous though because according to the insert the failure rate is 2-4% and that's with perfect use.

FWIW I did love my IUD..it's rare for it to expel. It has no hormones but is a little costly [$500 but lasts 10-12 yrs].

  • I've been on Loestrin for about a year now and I'm happy with it. My OB put me on it because Ortho Tri gave me bad mood swings and he said this would help with that since it's one low dose throughout the month, no 3 doses in 3 weeks like most BCP.

For about the first 6 months, I spotted mid-cycle. My periods were light spotting as well, never much flow...so it was like 1 week spotting, 1 week off, repeat.... then sometimes I'd skip periods after mid-cycle spotting, or not spot at all that cycle... it finally evened out and now I love being on it! My cycles are soooooooo much lighter then ever (a few days of spotting, not even enough to use more then a liner) and short.

Could you feel it there or does it hurt when it does this?  I am thinking about getting an IUD after #2 but I'm worried about having something like this happen to me.

THIS!  Took the mini pill after DD1 and that's how we had DD2 :)  Can't take any more chances but not ready to tie my tubes.  It was our next best option.

oh yes..the period I had before it started to move was horrific..I won't go into too much detail but it lasted 10 days long and was heavy, heavy, heavy. Not sure if that's what caused it to move or was a result of it moving..but after that I had painful cramping every day. With the paragard I would have one day of bad cramping before AF started but this was every day all day and was very painful. That's what prompted me to call my OB . Plus I noticed that my strings were a little longer [which is why you should check them EVERY month!]. But that only happens in like 5% of girls in the 1st yr and goes down every year after that. It's rare. Like I said..I loved my IUD for the 7 months I had it!

  • I had the paragard IUD for 10 months. I had horrible constant discharge for 7 months until I got my first period. I had bleeding for 2 months off and on. I have pain and started to get cysts (my OB said it wasnt from that but I think it was). I had HORRIBLE pains when I got my period and heavy bleeding where I was changing tampons every 30 mins. It was NOT worth it. I got it out and got on the mini pill....it made me into a crazy moody lady. I then stopped and did condoms for a few weeks and realized we needed something else as we are bad with them. So I am on the nuvaring now...I am still BFIng only 1-2 times a days so its fine. I like it so far, so bad side effects and I dont have to take a pill. Its nice.
