Cloth Diapering

Diaper Review- Swaddlebug Diapers

I bought this diaper a few weeks ago because I love safari themes, half and half diapers, and ruffle butts and this had all three!  Plus, I was being nice to a certain someone and trying out an unknown diaper maker that she had linked in a post Wink... but mostly it was because of the safari print Smile. (hmmmm who's the habitual linker I could be talking about.... lol)

At first glance, I thought: "Wow, super cute! Love the fabrics, the multi-colored snaps, such a cute combination!"

Then I started looking more closely:

image

A- the elastic along the back is loose on one side (top arrow) and tight on the other (bottom arrow).  Not pictured in the close up is the leg elastics.  They end at the bottom row of rise snaps so even with the rise snapped all the way up there are huge gaps around my DD's chunky thighs.

B- The ruffles were left un-hemmed so they're fraying and especially so after the first wash.  Also, as you can see on the specific ruffle the arrow is point to, it wasn't even cut straight (compare it to the green ruffles above and below)

Also, the zorb "soaker" that is included (for $5 extra dollars)  is about 4 inches wide- about half the width of the diaper.  And talk about poor workmanship- the "serging" isn't actually serging but really badly done zig zag patters with uneven, non-straight sewing and frayed stiches everywhere.  And, now that it's been prepped it won't even lay flat, as you can see in the picture.

Swaddlebug has both pockets and Ai2's available and though I would have preferred the Ai2, the pocket serves as a good enough reference for quality and workmanship.  I really wanted to love this diaper because of the aforementioned loves but the quality is rather sub-par and definitely not work my $27.  Because I love the print combination so much I will still probably attempt to use it once she gets bigger and the legs stop gaping.  Either that, or try my hand at adding more leg elastic Indifferent

Unfortunately, I'm left giving this diaper maker a poor review and can not suggest that anyone tries her Ai2's.  I'm pretty sure one other person posted on the aforementioned post that she too bought a couple of the pockets.  Perhaps her experiences were different.  Hopefully she'll see this post and add in her own two cents!

I pride myself on my customer service and making any problems someone has with a diaper better as I am a up and coming wahm I want my name to be associated with good things. • Why would you continue to use elastic if you knew it was faulty?

OP, thanks for sharing your review!

    image
  • I didn't know that it was faulty. I had that batch I made the diapers they sold then the first person that received them emailed me and told me what happened. I posted on my business page as well as sent a email out to everyone that said if anyone had a issues with the elastic that I would fix it free of charge and pay shipping. I am guessing that OP didn't get that email but I would have liked the chance to make it right before getting a awful review ya know? Since this is the first negative review I have ever had.

Okay, that makes sense...and it is awesome that you reached out to your clients about that particular issue. However, that wasn't the only issue with the diaper--there were 2 or 3 other things mentioned. It sounds like you want to make sure a customer is happy, but a customer is not going to be happy when they receive a diaper with 3-4 different problems, necessitating shipping a diaper back to the vendor.

Ladies on TB are great about posting honest reviews, and when sellers fix a problem that is recognized as well. As someone new to cloth diapering, I appreciate this resource as a way to determine what diapers I will buy and what vendors I will avoid. There are a lot of sellers out there. I'm interested to see how this situation plays out.

  • I can totally understand that and I honestly feel horrible about these issues! It is good for me to get something like this so I know what I have to fix in the future I just would have liked to have been contacted if I hadn't been searching for this I wouldn't have known there was anything wrong to fix! I hope that just this review doesn't keep people from giving me a chance. :(

As for the soaker I do not have a serger as of yet as they are very expensive so I did what I thought worked. Not many people order that one mostly its the microfiber towel ( no sewing )  my snap in inserts for my AI2 and fitted don't have that fraying problem and I kept some myself so I can only assume its because there is nothing topping it (like obv, minky, or microfleece). The ruffles are just my fault completely I did not realize that they would do that. And I can't express enough apologizes about that. If she had emailed me I could have given her a partial refund or a complete refund. Like I said I want to keep my customers happy!

  • Mkay, might have to take back my complementary attitude towards you. Just checked out your FB page. Complaining about a customer on your facebook page is BAD CS.

if you got a diaper from me that was sub-par would you tell me to my face(email) or would you write a review bashing me and not let me know there were problems??8 hours agoAly Mosh-Rawr The latter sounds horrible! If that happened to me, I would tell you in hopes of giving you feedback to improve your products :)8 hours agoAndrea Grupe Yeah, at least give the company an opportunity to fix it or explain what's going on first. Geeze.8 hours agoSwaddlebug Diapers ?^^ this is what I alway ask for I just need feedback as I am a newer wahm. But I found a awful review stating issues that I could have easily fixed because I had had that issue before (remember the post about bad elastic)8 hours agoAndrea Grupe Aww I'm sorry about the review :o( Can you contact her so you can maybe offer to fix it? Then maybe she'll update her review so that you can have a chance to do something about it.8 hours agoLindsey Rowley I would consult with you first. Everybody makes mistakes.8 hours ago ?  1 personElaine Becker with any company i would contact them in hopes of a return/replacement/comp before placing a review like that. sorry that happened :(8 hours ago ?  1 personSwaddlebug Diapers I did email her. I just am kinda hurt about how she did it. I think if you are going to post a public review about a diaper company that said company should at least know you are going to be reviewing them ya know?8 hours agoAndrea Grupe Yeah. I'm actually debating writing a negative review about a company. To be fair, I'm heartbroken about it but at the same time I have been emailing them SINCE APRIL and haven't gotten so much as a response.8 hours ago ?  1 personSwaddlebug Diapers and that is a good enough reason! I would be furious! I feel bad about even giving neutral feedback8 hours ago ?  1 personAmanda Alvarado Would definately email first but if no reply after numerous attempts...well then...negative review it would be!7 hours ago ?  1 personFaith StAmour Was it on a blog? If so I think I know who it was. I personally would email the person or company in hopes that they would fix the issue.7 hours agoRobyn Blackham we had that problem with an ebay buyer once. my hubby accidentally shipped two things to the wrong places. He realized before they even got them, contacted them both and refunded them both- we didn't get EITHER things back, and got two nega...See More3 hours agoKristina Crawley I would and have always emailed first! I don't think it's appropriate to just bash on a blog until you have tried your hardest to speak with the seller.
Can you let us know which blog?
3 hours agoKristina Crawley But, your second question, about writing a bad review and letting them no, NO, if I wrote a bad review, I would not personally send and email to said seller/company to let them know I wrote anything at all about them.3 hours agoCheri Jacobson I would email first, it only seems fair! if the seller is willing to fix the problem then I send them a good review later on! that is bs that they wrote a negative one without contacting you:( hugs!27 minutes ago

  • I wasn't complaining so to speak and no one else seemed to think I was. I simply would have liked to know if anyone else would have not contacted the seller first.
  • bad elastic? How is that possible? It stretches in one inch and doesn't stretch the next? But then does again an inch later?

    LOL

    OK

How about a little product evaluation before you ship it out? (Or list it for that matter) It takes maybe 5 minutes to go over everything to see how it looks before you take a picture of it. And according to you, you could have fixed all of these issues... so why didn't you do that before you listed the diaper? It looks like your topstitching went through part of the elastic, which IS a 60 second repair, and should have been done before listing- period.

$27 for a diaper from a NEW wahm? I don't think you've earned the right to charge that much for a pocket diaper, and it's pretty egotistical of you to think you deserve it- especially if you're sending out this kind of work.

And OK you don't have a serger and can't fork out the $200 for it... how about turn and topstitch? You obviously have a sewing machine... why not do that, so at least it looks presentable. Oh.. that must take too much time for you, huh? With all the demand you have you just don't have time to turn and topstitch an insert, or do some quality control before selling a diaper.

sounds like you may not have the time to have a diaper business. either that or your 'customer happiness pride' isn't high enough to make you want to double check these things before making them available to buy. your diaper making skill certainly isn't high enough to actually sell a diaper for the price you're listing!

And then reply to this with the 'feel sorry for me, i didn't know, why didn't you email me first' whine is soooo lame. had you just taken 10 minutes to LOOK at your completed work this review may have been better. but you didn't- or you did and didn't care to fix it cause you figured people are too nice to say anything or too dumb to notice themselves.

I'm so tired of women seeing cloth diapers sell for high prices and thinking only about the money they could make if they did it too. not the true drive to make, sell, and please people. there's an amount of pride that comes with a job well done, and if you only care about the money then you'll never feel that. And after seeing this post, i can believe you don't know that feeling.

No, you went whining back to your friends because obviously we can't use the internet like you can and you didn't think it would be noticed.

Another WAHM taken off my list.

ANYWAY, op, I  have no idea who this habitual linker is that you speak of.  ::whistles::

  • Haha.  This post is all sorts of awesome.

Haha.  This post is all sorts of awesome.

I know, right?  It even has a random 1 post AE.

  • The "bumpie who shall not be named" kind of went over my head...maybe I am too new on this page.

I was in a pretty snarky mood this morning, but the excuses made me so mad! I was worried I was a little judgmental, but then I found the FB post...so lame.

What is up with sellers lately????
