Immunizations and Travel...stupid?

I am flying to Texas from California for a family reunion on the 30th. My husband is staying home but of course I plan on taking DS with me. I can not stand the thought of being without him for a couple of days. In fact I would rather not go to the reunion, but thats a whole other story.

Anyway, he gets his 2 months shots on the 28th. I know a lot of people talk about how easy it is travelling with an infant because they sleep most of the flight, but having him just gotten his shots two days before is that wise? If you have travelled with your infant did you do so before or after they got their shots? I could reschedule his shots until we get back but I'm a germaphope and think about him being on that plane in closed quarters with strangers and him not being protected at all. Am I overthinking this? I will of course check with his ped but just wanted everyones input.

 TIA.

  • We just did the airplane thing, and DD has not had any shots yet.  I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Before or after doesn't make much difference, the shots won't really be effective as protection right away anyway.  If he gets the shots and is miserable from them you can always give him a dose of Tylenol before getting on the plane.

  • I was wondering the same thing. He's getting his shots on Tuesday and then we are flying from Orlando to Jersey on Friday. He'll be 6 weeks, but I wanted them done before we flew. The pedi told us that it actually takes 2 weeks for them to be effective, but I felt it was better to have them done now. I just hope he's not still cranky for the flight. Oh and the pedi said that if you are BF to take some airborne and LO will get some in the breastmilk.
