Trying to Get Pregnant

ok, a new ? about OPK

I bought them today.  Any advice/tips?  I read somewhere to take around 2pm if possible.  WHEN do I start using them?  I'm on AF now, so do I start the day it stops.  My cycle has been exactly 27 days for the past 6 months.  TIA.

Squishy-- I hope you are around, you are always giving me great tips :)

Re: ok, a new ? about OPK

  • If you've never done them before I'd start around CD 10 and test multiple times a day.  I test with FMU and again around 3-4.  Try to hold your urine for at least 3 hours before testing.  Good luck

    1. I totally agree with all of this. I use FMU as well when I am testing x2 per day.

    2. I think your son and mine are a day apart! Ethan's b-day is 3/17. Love your pic of him... total cutie!

  • Are you going to OPK while charting temps? Is doing both necessary? Just curious.

  • The directions on mine say to start the day after AF leaves, however, I do something more like what Kdg says about waiting till CD10.  It certainly makes the box of tests last longer anyway.

  • There should be a chart in the packaging that tells you when to start using them, but kdg's suggestion of CD10 is good, too. kdg mentioned she uses FMU, but every OPK I've ever bought advised against it. LH builds up in the early morning as you're sleeping, so sometimes you won't get accurate results with FMU. Some girls do just fine detecting their surge with it, though. I'm personally a rules follower, so I don't use FMU. I also only test once daily (at 4pm), while other ladies prefer to test twice, especially once fertile CM presents itself.

  • Ok so when is CD 10?  Is CD 1 the first day of AF?  Thanks Kdg :)

  • Yes, the plan is to do both, but I couldn't find a BBT at Rite Aid today so I am going to check out CVS or order one online.  I think doing both helps you know when you are O, but I am so new at this, I probably shouldn't be answering this question LOL :)

  • CD 10 would be a good day to start. I test with FMU, and when the line gets darker, I begin to test in the evening as well. The past two cycles I've gotten my first + at 9pm, after holding my pee for at least 3 hours. GL!

Yes. CD1 is the first day of red flow - not spotting - requiring the use of a pad or tampon. I think you'll find the newbie link at the top of the board very helpful.

  • Thank you!  I've actually read it twice, but with a 15 month running around, who knows if I have actually read ALL of it :)  Let me go back there now.  I'm just happy I haven't been flamed with all of these newbie questions I've been posting.  You all are super supportive and helpful.

  • I am going to take a guess that FMU is First Morning Urine. I could be wrong.

I am appreciating your questions, since I am appreciating people's answers! :D TYVM!

  • I agree with the others on testing around CD10....I test around 10-11am every morning and then again around 6-7pm. Not sure if you are checking your CM but I do and I use that as a guide to start using OPKs because I've started to notice a pattern in mine when gearing up to O.

    GL! :)

FMU = first morning urine.  There is a bump glossary on the left side of your screen which has been VERY helpful for me.

To answer your original question, I agree with pp that CD10 is probably a good place to start.  However, for yours (and anyone else's) future reference someone posted this link a while ago and I thought I'd share since it came up again.  https://www.peeonastick.com/opkfaq.html#8  HTH!
