Two Under 2

2 under 2 again = 3 under 3!

I just found out on Friday I'm pregnant again. DD and DS are almost 16 months apart. DS and this baby will be 17 months apart, I think but I'm not sure how far along I am yet (my kids are literally one egg after another, I haven't had a period since August of 2008 before I got pregnant with DD). 2 under 2 was hard for us for the first 5 months or so. It seems like things just started to get a little easier! I work full-time and my husband works very early morning hours and stays home with the kids. I'm already worried about taking care of 3 in the morning while trying to get ready for work! We're also definitely going to have to take the leap and get a mini van for sure.

Anyone with 3 under 3? What am I in for?

We will be a few days shy of 3u3... I'm due 4 days after my DS turns 3.  No advice yet but I hate to admit I'm looking forward to getting a mini van!  Just waiting until the due date gets closer since my car now is paid off!

  • I hope to be in your shoes very soon! We are TTC#3, which would be about 14 months younger than DS (and DS is 14 months younger than DD). I'd have 3 kids under 28 months.

  • I can't offer any advice, but it is nice to know someone else is in the same boat.  DS#3 is due exactly 1 month after DS#1 turns 3.  DS#2 will be 16.5 months when our third is born.  Child care, bedrooms and the car situation are about to get very interesting around here!  Good luck to you.  Let me know if you get any great advice.

  • So what would you do as far as bedrooms go? With both of my kids I kept them in my room for maybe a week or so. I breastfed them both but would just go to their room each night and feed/rock them. My DH works late/early morning hours so I never wanted him to have to wake up from the baby crying. I plan to do the same with this baby but I have 3 bedrooms and I'm not sure how the room thing will work out. Should I put the oldest 2 in a room together for a while or until the baby starts sleeping through the night (then I'll put the same sexes in the same room) or should I put the baby with my eldest who is a better sleeper (as of now anyway)?  I still haven't transitioned her to a bed, so I'm not sure how she'll do and if she'll get out of bed and wake the baby.

I know I have plenty of time to sort this out, but this is one of the first things I was thinking of and I'm curious what you all would do/suggest.

This is 100% exactly my plan.

  • I think someone on the 6-9 month board just found out she is having twins!

We're almost 3U3.  Honestly, the transition from 1-2 was harder than I'm finding going from 2-3.  The biggest challenge is simply getting everyone ready and loaded up to the car to go places, and there are some places I simply won't brave on my own with all 2 of them (large grocery shopping trips, the pool, certain playgrounds, etc.).  We have a 4 BR house so everyone has their own rooms so I can't help you with that, but I would put the older ones together and give baby his/her own room.  Good luck, it can be done!

I'm hoping this will be the case for me. Going from 1-2 was definitely hard for us! Well, the first 6 months or so were super hard.

  • I almost had 3 under 3.... DS1 turned three in late Sept and baby #3 was born in early October. The hardest part was that DS1 had preschool three mornings per week, so getting everyone up and in the car on time to drop him off was a challenge some days. DS1 was very independent by three though, he could dress himself if I laid out his clothes so I only needed to worry about dressing the younger too (and sometimes they went In the car in their pj's). I wouldn't change it for the world! GL and a h&h 9 months to you!
