spit up

Why is my baby all of a sudden spitting up?. He's 4 weeks old, EBF, and never had this problem until 2 days ago. Nothing new so I can't pinpoint the reason. I thought breastfed babies don't have this problem. He's been having problems with gas, unable to burp/pass gas for about a week and now spitting up sometimes just a little sometimes it looks like the whole meal! What gives? Should I call the ped?

I have no help/advice for you...but my baby did the same thing. Right at 4 weeks he started spitting up a lot, tons of gas, crying, etc. We'll be going to the pedi tomorrow and I plan to talk to him about it. I'll pass on any info he gives me if you'd like.

  • Mine started this at 3 weeks.  I let it go for a few days, but it got worse and I called the pedi last Friday.  He said it sounded like some reflux so called in a prescription for Zantac and said we'd evaluate more at her 1 month next week.  The Zantac seems to work a little, she still spits up, but she doesn't spit up what seems to be whole meals anymore.

  • Are you burping after LO eats? I find that if I do not burp Ashley after eating, she will spit up. Also, I try to leave her upright for at least 5 minutes after eating.

Another thing that seems to have helped me is her position WHILE eating. I use the football hold, and I make sure her head is higher than her legs/stomach. SHe is a LOT less gassy after doing this.
