Parenting after 35

hello again and update

hi ladies, I've been absent for a while, I was having a really tough time dealing with a second loss - - and my second ectopic in 6 months.  Doing better now and I'm still in the forced wait period due to the medication they gave to stop the last pregnancy from growing where it shouldn't.  Anyway, I am now under the care of a perinatologist (they didn't think I need an RE since I can get pregnant easily, its just in the wrong place).  He suggested an HSG to see if my tubes are blocked, if they are then IVF is my only safe option for a try at having another baby.  Anyone had this done?  Was it awful?  Thanks in advance.

Re: hello again and update

  • So sorry for your loss! I did IVF (which resulted in my twins) and it was definitely an involved, lengthy and expensive process, but it's manageable.  I wouldn't have my babies without it and would do it again in a second. The infertility board could have a lot of advice too since many people there have/are going through it.  Good luck!

  • No ivf, just happy to hear from you!  I hope your tubes aren't blocked!  I have had two ectopics as well, but it turned out that it was just my left tube that was the problem.  Once that was gone I could breathe a bit easier.

  • I wasn't sure if you were asking if anyone had had the HSG or done IVF.  Either way :::raises hand::: I have done both.  My HSG was not bad, but I did take 3 ibuprofen before the procedure.  I didn't have any blockage, so I am sure that's part of why mine was easy.

I would do IVF again right now if 1. I wasn't 41 and 2. I had unlimited income.  It's a bit of a roller coaster, but stress over $$$ was my #1 issue with IVF.

This was us as well. We went through IVF as we were diagnosed with "unexplained infertility." Which sucks. But as pp posters said, the IVF is a drawn out experience, but not too bad. I hate shots so that was really the hardest part for me. But, we went through it and would again for our lovely DD.
