Trying to Get Pregnant

Prenatals

I read that its best to start taking prenatals while you are TTC. Not sure what is the best kind to take. What kind if any do you take? I have a hard time swallowing pills but I know gummies ussually dont give as much vitamins.

Re: Prenatals

  • I take the gummy ones. When I get pregnant, I will ask my doctor what he recommends but for now I think these are just fine.

  • Lots of ladies on here take the gummies. Give them a try, plus it is better than taking nothing.

  • I was wondering the same exact thing. A few people told me to go to Target for their generic brand because it's cheaper. While I was there I asked the pharmacist what the difference was between Nature Made 60 pills for $16 or Target brand 100 pills for $5.....she said nothing but the brand name. Unfortunatley, they were out of stock on the Target brand so I will have to make another trip. :(

  • If you don't want to do the gummies (which I think I fine), you could actually try Flintstones chewables. A lot of women on the tri boards who couldn't do pills would just take two of those with their doctor's approval. I don't remember if they took anything else, since you are supposed to have DHA (not sure if the chewables have that or not).

  • Many of us take the gummies because they are less abrasive on the tummy.  Many of the ladies around here get ill taking the pills...

If you decide to take a regular multi vitamin like a kids chewable... please take a Folic Acid supplement as well.  The Folic Acid is very important.

My favorite is by Nature Made it is a once daily capsule. It is easy to take and already has DHA in it.

  • Where have you heard that gummies don't give as much vitamins? I cannot swallow pills at all (awful gag reflex) and prenatals are HUGE! Do gummies really not give you as much, anyone?

  • I've been taking folic acid. I really should start with the prenatals, but my doc suggested I save the cash and do these since the bottle is just $2.. until I'm KU.

However, it could never hurt to go ahead with them early. I'm just tight with home renovations at the moment.
