Trying to Get Pregnant

First IUI, PCOS, clomid and Ovidrel ?'s

Hello Ladies, I hope everyone is doing well. I guess I will start with my story a little: DH and I tired on our own for a year with no luck. My regualar GYN did an HSG, and we tried 100 mg of clomid for 3 cycles, no luck. She then sent me to a RE and from there ensued the blood tests, glucose tests, SA for DH. In the end I have a PCOS, and my DH is perfectly healthly and great sperm. So now all testing is done my RE's game plan is: I am going on metaformin. We are also now going right to a clomid cycle with IUI. This is coming at a good point I hope. For the last two months I have been getting AF regularly (I am not complaining it is a nice change **another side note with this during my last cycle which started on May 31st my DH and I one week did quite a bit of BD'ing and after thinking about it that was the week I was supposed to ovulate so maybe here is to hoping a for a BFP, I know probably not but hey can't hurt to hope. AF should be here around 6/28) So once AF cines from there I will go in on cycle day 3 have a baseline u/s, I will also begin clomid for cycle day 3-7. At cycle day 12 I will have 2nd u/s, at this point the day of the IUI will be determined and I will take an HCG injection 36 hours before IUI.(I am 27 and DH is 33) So what is an IUI like, anyone get BFP off the first cycle, helpful hints? Also, this is random but it may be all depending on your doctor. After conveiving does your Fertility specialist continue to care for you and deliver you baby, or do you go to your normal GYN or do you find an OB in their practice (my GYN is on maternity leave till the fall) one more qustion for any of you that have had an IUI when they started you on clomid what dosage did they start you on? My RE is starting me on 50mg with the shot of Ovidrel around day 12 or so, but i am thinking that the 50mg of clomid will not be enough because when I took clomid under the care of my GYN she started me at 100mg? Should I have brought this up with my RE when we were talking about the plan?

Re: First IUI, PCOS, clomid and Ovidrel ?'s

  • You will probably have more luck on the TTC board - more girls there are experience with testing and treatments. I would recommend making your post more readable by adding paragraphs, first, though.

To answer one question, though.: no, your RE does not care for you in pregnancy. Once you achieve pregnancy, you will go back to your OB/gyn.

So what is an IUI like, anyone get BFP off the first cycle, helpful hints? An IUI feels very much like a pap smear. It's pretty quick and painless and then you can get up and go about your day. As far as success the first time, nope, I'm starting with IUI #6 this week once AF comes and it will be our last before IVF. However, there ARE lots of ladies who get lucky the first go around though so hopefully you'll be one of them! Also, this is random but it may be all depending on your doctor. After conveiving does your Fertility specialist continue to care for you and deliver you baby, or do you go to your normal GYN or do you find an OB in their practice (my GYN is on maternity leave till the fall) You will have your first u/s and betas with the RE and then they will "release" you to your regular OB/GYN after confirming you have a viable PG. one more qustion for any of you that have had an IUI when they started you on clomid what dosage did they start you on? Never took Clomid but they started me on 2.5 mg of Femara (which does essentially the same as Clomid). Your dosage is going to be determined by several diff't factors specific to you. My RE is starting me on 50mg with the shot of Ovidrel around day 12 or so, but i am thinking that the 50mg of clomid will not be enough because when I took clomid under the care of my GYN she started me at 100mg? Should I have brought this up with my RE when we were talking about the plan? If you provided this information to your RE, I would presume he/she took this into consideration before deciding on your protocol. Were you monitored by your OB/GYN? How many follies did you develop with 100 mg? I'm guessing your RE is being conservative to start with to see how you respond which is a good thing. If you develop too many follies, you'll have to cancel your IUI (or wind up like Kate Gosselin).
