Those with an IUD, come in

At my 6 week appointment I discussed my options with my OB but ultimately decided to go back on the pill. Now that I have been taking a pill everyday again for a few days, I am wondering if I should just get the IUD. I was worried that if I didn't get regular periods, I would panic all the time that I was pregnant again and spend a fortune on HPT's. Did those of you who have the IUD have that problem.

Also I find my face is a bit clearer on the pill. I don't know what it would be like with the IUD.

  • I was on the implant so maybe I'm not much help, but when i was on the pill I was more afraid of becoming pregnant then the implant. I would sometimes forget the pill. At least with the implant I never could forget. You also don't get your period and just have break through spotting. I was on it the entire time I was with DH and was able to get pregnant right away. I will be going back on it. :) FWIW I was on implanon. its a rod that sits in your arm muscle. Never painful :)

I am not sure, I live in Canada and my work plan would cover it. My doctor said it can be expensive if you don't have coverage.

  • I had my Mirena inserted at my 6 week PP check up.  My health insurance fully covered the cost, but I understand it can range anywhere from a $15 copay to the full $1000 cost of the IUD.  You should check with your insurance company.

I previously had an IUD as well and have always had irregular periods, but with my IUD, I was never concerned about a pregnancy.  The first time I bought a HPT was when I had the IUD removed and we started TTC (IUD came out July 26 and I got my BFP August 19th).

The only thing I'm not fond of is that I am EBF and have had this wacky bleeding from the Mirena since it was put in.  Nothing that a pantyliner isn't taking care of, but not exactly convenient for pool weather, KWIM?
