Ready, set go....
LO hit 5 months last week. He is such a funny little guy, who has a personality that is way bigger than his 14 pound body. He's still a skinny little guy, but he keeps getting taller. He's grown more than 7 inches since he was born.
I think I've mentioned that he adores his daddy and will laugh and laugh for him, and just kind of tolerates me. Well, yesterday, daddy became chopped liver and I became the funny one. It was too bad that it was on Father's Day, but it made me really happy that I could be so amusing. I just kept making him laugh all day long :-)
He is rolling, inchworming, grabbing, and is generally really attentive and playful. This weekend he has really gotten into grabbing my hair, which is just a little too short to be completely pulled back.
We are committed to keeping him screen-free as long as possible, and it has become a struggle. If he is in the same room as the TV or a computer, he is just drawn to it. It's a little scary. He has also become very drawn to my iPhone, which has been my savior during night wakeups. I am not looking forward to giving that up.
Re: It's been a while since our last check-in
We are doing well! DD is a chatterbox and entertains us with all of the things on her mind. She is very, very funny! She has recently started some separation anxiety at school which has been very surprising and very challenging. She is starting at a preschool in the fall, so I hope that this doesn't continue and make that transition even harder.
The other thing I have found very interesting is that since one of our beloved cats passed away in March, she still asks about her. Out of the blue she'll say, "I miss Bella" or "Bella come back." It breaks our hearts but amazes us that she still remembers and thinks about her.
Great to see the updates!!
DD#2 is growing in leaps and bounds in terms of communication these days. She loves mimicing sounds and words and constantly asks us to identify things...of course I think we're the only ones who really understand her "what is that?" question. She also makes some fantastic faces and has really developed a sense of humor--yesterday at the grocery store, I told her not to touch the buttons on the credit card scanner at the check out--she tried to reach the buttons and then looked at me with a mischievious look in her eye, wagged her finger and said "no, no, no" Totally cute. On the other end of things, I am a little nervous as we approach the 18 month mark--she is VERY strong willed and has already started to throw small tantrums. We were pretty lucky with DD#1 at ages 2 and 3...I think we're in for a wild ride with DD#2.
DD#1 graduates from preschool this week (sniff)...she had great time being the flower girl at my sister's wedding last weekend and loves to relate elaborate stories about almost anything. She definitely keeps DH and I on our toes--nothing gets past her...I can't believe I have an-almost kindergartener!!
DS is developing into quite the social butterfly. Whenever we are out and about he likes to make friends and smiles at all his "stranger" friends.
He is saying mama and dada and babbling some other stuff that we can't quite understand. He is getting more and more mobile. Cruising around the coffee table, and can stand unassisted for 10-15 seconds or so until he plops on his little bottom. It will probably be a month or so before he is walking.
He is always smiling and laughing when we give him our attention. The only problems come when he wants our attention when he can't give him it like in the mornings. He's very attached to his mama. It's hard not to pick him up when he crawls over to me and stands at my legs saying mama, mama. I'm planning on adjusting my work schedule to give myself more time in the morning so DH and I can tag-team in order to get ready.
I'm still BF and actually considering to continue to pump after his 1st birthday. We'll see. Neither of us are ready to wean and I see no reason to fix something that isn't broken.

I'm done teaching for the summer and so excited! I am looking forward to spending the summer with DS - he is just at such a fun age. Everything is new and exciting, and he continues to talk up a storm, after all my months of worrying. We're getting ready to put our house on the market and it is such a jumble of "piles" right now - quite hard to keep little hands away from!
He is still an early riser, (he doesn't understand this summer vacation thing...) but naps and sleeps pretty well. The one issue is that I have to have him down for a nap by 12:30 - otherwise it's a mess. And if he falls asleep in the car at all after 11, it's not good either...so that'll be what I have to work all of our busy summer days around!
We are just starting TTC #2...so we'll see where that leads us!
C is great. We have typical toddler tantrums and still struggle with time outs, but he is generally a funny, outgoing little goofball. He had a little tummy bug last week (which I may have caught - booo!) and remained in good spirits. He continues to looove the beach and is really pretty good about the car ride there and back.
He's just gotten interested in tv. We don't often have it on while he's awake (okay, maybe on slow weekends) but while I was out of town a few weeks ago DH started a habit of sitting on the couch with him with a sippy of milk and watching a Jacques Pepin cooking show before bedtime. Now he looooves watching and will point to the tv and ask for "Jock Po" like he's Elmo.
DD turns 1 tomorrow! We had her b-day party on Sat., and I think she enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun planning a bumblebee themed party for her.
She is such a sweetheart and it has been an easy year with her. She is very close to walking and her favorite things to do are push her cart around and climb up the stairs. And she LOVES the talking Elmo doll. She has a vocab of 6 words but my favorite is "uh oh."
DS is 2.5 now and is such a little boy now. He loves to sing and we are amazed at his memory. He knows words to songs I can't even understand and has all of his toddler cd's memorized, so he'll tell us what song is coming up next. He also talks constantly...but it's crazy how articulate he has become over the past month or so and he's speaking in complete sentences. We love hearing what is on his mind. He's a really loving little boy, full of kisses and hugs. So life is really good!
Conrad is potty trained! (Mostly) He is completely pee trained with the exception of nighttime and whenever DH lets him run around in a pull up (GRRRR). He'll even go out in public, but he makes me flush the toilet b/c it's scary. He is currently using his last pull up to poop, and then I'm not buying any more, so he'll have to figure out the potty thing. His menu this week consists of fiber, fiber, and more fiber. Hopefully that'll make it so that he just can't withold. Cross your fingers for us.
Next week he starts summer camp. It will be his first time doing something like that. He has already stated that he doesn't want to go and wants to stay home with me. Give us both courage to make it through the week.
Maggie is a normal 7.5 month old. She's being stubborn about eating bottles again, so I don't know if she has grown out of her Prevacid dose or if she's getting teeth. When she went back on Prevacid at 5 months old, the doctor put her on the maximum dose, gave her a minimum of 20 oz of formula a day, and said that we can push solids. If she doesn't start eating again soon, I guess we'll be headed back. It's currently almost 4 pm and she has only eaten 10 oz today.
I'm kind of hoping for teeth, but there aren't really that many signs for them. She has had white swollen gums since 2 months old. She's extra whiny, but not drooly. The whininess could be from not eating though...
I guess just normal stuff around here for us. No crawling from Maggie, although she has started wiggling in such a way that makes me think she might be a butt scooter. No babbling yet, but possibly the beginning of clapping. It's kind of weird to have a kid that's not moving yet. I know she's not even close to being behind, but by this point Conrad was a proficient cruiser, so it really makes her seem like so much more of a baby than he ever did.
we are on week 4 of no sleep in our house due to the new toddler bed. it sucks. we are all frustrated and exhausted and honestly I am not sure what to do. we have pretty much tried everything and have followed the whole 'don't engage with her when she gets out of bed, just take her back to her room' advice and it has gotten us nowhere.
otherwise, DD loves the pool, her vocabulary is exploding and it is fun to have her explain what she did at daycare or at the pool or at the park.
We had to put a gate on DS's room. It didn't need to be there long, as he hates being "trapped", but it did the job. Don't stay in your room? You get a gate in your doorway. We didn't care if he slept in the bed or on the floor, so long as he slept. Luckily, he likes his bed overall. We were ready to Ferberize him if necessary.
she can climb any gate- even when they are stacked two high. She got the door handle knob protector thing off in 10 seconds. We have thought about turning the lock around but honestly I think she would hurt herself.
She won't sleep in the bed and has been sleeping in her tent on the floor but it is the waking up at 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and wanting to play/talk/read/etc... that is driving us crazy.
We went through this (and still are somewhat) with DS#1 when we brought home DS#2 from the hospital - and it was so strange because he's been in his big boy bed with no issues for 3 months already. We had to do the following:
1. Let him drop his nap. It absolutely sucks for me during the day, especially being up all night with DS#2, but I'd rather save the battles for bedtime than naptime.
2. Start the bedtime routine earlier and make it longer. A few extra stories, etc.
3. Remind him that if he sleeps in his bed ALL NIGHT and DOES NOT GET OUT, he gets a sticker in the morning. Once he gets 5 stickers, he gets a special treat (usually 2 or 3 Jelly Bellies, lol).
It's working for now. But I wouldn't be surprised if he gets tired of it and changes the game on us!
Good luck - I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's really miserable!
I love this!
I love reading all the updates. DD is getting sweeter and smarter every day. She remembers everything and is turning into such a lovely girl. There are bad parts to 2 as well. The moodiness, the not sharing, but overall it is such a pleasure to spend time with her.
DS is so wonderful. Happy, easy to spend time with. Just a pleasure. Except at night when he wants to nurse multiple times an evening. I am so tired. I didn't know this level of exhaustion was possible. But I love every minute of it. I feel so incredibly blessed.
Victoria1212 I hope your DD starts sleeping more soon. My DD has been asking to sleep on the floor lately as well. We bought her a sleeping bag for when she wants to follow through.
Sprout hates me like he's 13 and I screamed "I love you!" across the playground or something. I should be happy that he screams when we leave daycare (and bats my hands away when I try to take him from DCP), but that coupled with being Daddy's Little Boy leaves me kind of sad a lot. He deals when it's just me around, but that's about it.
Otherwise he's doing great. Walking more & turning into a chatterbox (although he doesn't really say words). Just 1 month until he turns one.
J is doing great. He finally got his bottom incisors, so I think we're done with teething for a while (knock wood). He's actually talking in phrases and sentences, which is really cool, and starting to grasp the concept of time. When he says goodbye to things now, he'll say "Bye-bye. See you tomorrow." It's so cute.
He's getting really good at climbing, and can climb up ladders at the playground and onto our bed, which was a nice surprise this morning (he loves getting up there so he can jump on it, which we should probably stop letting him do). He's really into Legos (well Duplos) and can entertain himself for a while with those, which is really nice. I think I'm going to try to do this Lego cake for his birthday in September.
He's actually totally obsessed with birthdays now after one of his friends at daycare had one the other week (with cake and a hat and all that). His new thing is saying "My birthday?" which means we have to sing him the birthday song. We do that a LOT.
Also, this is probably TMI, but I think his digestive system has *finally* matured and he is only pooping once or twice a day now (down from at least 3-4x/day). He's peed on the potty once and pooped on the potty once, but I'm pretty sure those were total flukes so we're not pressing it yet.

this is the first time I've posted an update but you ladies are so great with all the advice i thought it's about time I chime in
DS turned 4 months on Friday - I can hardly believe it! He's doing great weight-wise (almost 15 lbs) and is just a little slower height-wise. He's getting to be so fun and social - he looks around at everything and everyone when we go out and he's started to giggle (at me mostly) and it is just adorable. he's also started to get more attached to DH and especially me - he tends to cry if someone else is holding him and we're not in sight. His eyes are still pretty blue and I'm wondering when they'll change and kind of hoping they won't, DH and I both have brown eyes but there are a lot of blue and green in both our families. He's not rolling over yet, but I think that's partially our fault, we aren't great about doing tummy time with him as much as we probably should (he still hates it).
His sleep schedule is still all kinds of crazy and i wish it were better - he usually wakes up around 7 or 7:30 but then barely stays awake an hour and then sleeps for another 2.5 or so (which is heavenly); but then the rest of the day is a total toss up. Sometimes he takes a decent afternoon nap, but most days he'll only sleep for 45 minutes to an hour in the afternoon and yet he won't go to bed early either. The past couple of weeks he's also been waking up so much more at night - it's killing me! When he was 2-3 months old he would sleep for much longer stretches but now he's up almost every 3 hours and last night it was almost every 2! I guess this is that 4 month wakeful I hear so much about. it stinks.
DD is all about momma right now - pushes DH away, fusses when I put her down to get her food, clings to me when we get to daycare. I'm wondering if she's feeling physically out of sorts and needs cuddles (another tooth coming?) or if she's just in a phase. I'm feeling so bad for DH right now that it's hard to enjoy the extra cuddle time.
Crayons are her current favorite thing (aside from her stuffed bear), and she spends as much time putting them in and taking them out of the box as she does scribbling with them. She loves to count (up to 13 or 14 usually - we're trying to mess with her head and teach her that Ovaltine is a number, but that's not really sticking :P) but she stubbornly keeps skipping 2.
We finally weaned her off one of her two reflux meds (she was on a low-dose antibiotic for almost a year to help speed up her digestion to keep her from always having acid in her stomach). I'm hoping we can try to lower her dose of Prevacid soon, but at least it comes in a chewable tablet that she loves. I can't imagine what we'd do if we had to fight over taking medicines multiple times per day.
Ha! This made me laugh.

I love updates since there are a few boys just about DS's age, so it's interesting to compare.
DD is done with preschool and has started swimming lessons. She still refuses to put her head under the water, and I saw her start to panic yesterday when they asked her to do something unfamiliar, but she calmed herself down and is overcoming her apprehensions...I'm so proud of her because she's a cautious kid by nature. She's a great help with DS - she definitely has maternal instincts, which will be nice when #3 arrives...hopefully no jealousy (she had none with DS). Just today, she insisted on cleaning up her brother's scraped knees and told me that when she grows up she wants to be a mom. She got some dolls for her birthday last week and is all about taking care of them.
DS is adding a new word to his vocabulary every few days, so we're sloooowwwly catching up to where he "should" be. Some friends passed down a ton of train and truck toys to him, and he is obsessed. It's cute to watch him be a total "boy" since most of our toys are gender-neutral with a few "girly" ones thrown in. He has started battling his afternoon nap recently, but I refuse to let him give it up. DD stopped all naps by 2.5 years, so I'm hoping he'll hang on until at least then and this is just a phase.
#3 seems to be doing well. Overall an easier pregnancy than DS's, and while I figured I'd have another boy, it's actually more similar to my nine months with DD. I'm feeling pretty good in the second trimester, though the exhaustion of the first trimester hasn't let up. Lots of coffee is being consumed. I started feeling movement around week 14 (only because I know by now what to feel for), and I've been able to feel kicks from the outside in the last few days. It's hard to imagine another daughter or son since I already have one of each...I just picture a clone. The 20-week ultrasound is this Friday, and we're committed to not finding out the sex (Baby has been dubbed "Pat" until birth)...but it's going to be SO hard not to peek!
